My inability to do anything halfway shouldn't surprise me anymore, but it does somehow. I wound off my spinzillaspin yarn and managed just over 2 km (singles+plying).

I had a bit of an underwhelming TdF compared to past years, but there's been a lot of life happening this month. I got through almost a pound. I've got some WIPs that I intend to finish before the end of TdFF.

Finished tour de fleece spinning.

Clockwise from upper right: 12 ounces of sw merino/cashmere from @oinkpigments, spun on my electric eel wheel 6.1 and plied as a 3 ply

2 ounces of polworth from @oinkpigments, spun on my @battyfibers Turkish spindle and 2 plied on a wheel

8 ounces of Icelandic my husband got me for our anniversary, spun as a single (plus some sampling of the Icelandic)

The most surprising thing from this was how much I enjoyed spinning on the Turkish spindle! I definitely see more of this in my future, especially while traveling. I also ended up using the eel wheel a lot more than I planned - it’s just so easy to set up for a quick spin (which in this case turned into a 12 ounce spin)

Also really loved being in #stashdashers organized by @mellyknits - it was so much fun to see what everyone else was spinning

the finale of tour de fleece 2026: 297g of fiber spun 🎉 this was my first year joining the stash dashers, and I promptly abandoned my original TDF plans and dug deeper into my stash for most of these spins. I loved the community vibes, all of the beautiful inspiration shared, and taking time to try new things!

Here is my lineup (from left to right):

• Honeybun batt from @keirawxyz in the color “heirloom”, 70% blue faced Leicester 30% kid mohair - first time trying a chain ply! I got about 70yds out of this.
• 2 braids of Shetland fiber in the color “toe beans” from @seattleskydyeworks - 2 ply approx 770 yds combined
• my first completed spindle skein! Also chain plied - A cupcake batt from @keirawxyz, cormo + tussah silk, spun on my Ashford drop spindle. I got about 65 yds out of this.
• in the front is my first turtle (still in progress) on my @battyfibers Turkish spindle, with a @keirawxyz braid in the color “sugar cookie” - 60% polwarth, 32% South American wool, & 8% viscose. I *adore* this fiber, and I’m taking my precious time with it! I estimate my current turtle is about 10g so far.

Alas, the #tourdefleece2026 wrap up is here and it feels like it’s all over too soon. I spun and piled 825 grams and 2,232 yards this year. I also spun roughly 30 grams on my @jenkinsspindles wren while road tripping over the weekend. And I wasn’t loving my Touski spin on my Luna or Sparrow wheel so I swapped to my @bosworthspindles midis and made a 10 gram start … this is going to be a loonnngggg sweater spin now 🤣

Sending a giant thank you to @mellyknits for hosting us all again this year. I had such a blast spinning and following the Daily Whoop and everyone’s beautiful spins. And a big thank you to @battyfibers for all the fun stickers and to @cute_lil_emily for being the person behind the scenes and carding up such lovely giveaway goodies for the Whoop of Fortune as well.

During Tour de Fleece, I usually like to try to learn something new or practice something I’m not good at. This time, I practiced wrapping turtles using a zine from @battyfibers and videos from @pacificcoasterfibres. My usual wonkily wrapped one is on the left for comparison. I still need practice but I now understand the appeal!

Wrapping up Tour de Fleece 2026 with about 4500 yards of 2-ply in about 1350 g of wool (top two rows), yarn that will be knit into useful things. Bottom row is shenanigans.

First of all a big woolly hug and thank you to Melly @mellyknits and Marina @battyfibers for hosting us again! Spinning along with the Dashers is always a pleasure and I’m already looking forward to Dashel in the snow 😊🐑❄️

D E S T I N A T I O N D A S H E L !

Meagan @bramble_ridge absolutely hit the brief with her Destination Dashel colourway. I chose her BFL/Silk option and I am so glad I did! It was the perfect spin - a beautiful grippy draw with some additional drag from the silk. It’s been a while since I’d spun BFL and it was an absolute pleasure. The silk was perfectly distributed throughout the braid, and this base - no silk clumps to spin through. Hence the perfect name : BFL GLOW.

Every colour was an addictive delight to keep spinning to the next. The teal, green, caramel and rust mixed beautifully together. I split the braid in half and then down to eights hoping for somewhat of a match up - but looking back, there is no wrong way to spin this braid. It would have worked brilliantly regardless.

105 grams gave me 240 yards and is right between a DK and a worsted weight yarn.

I’m so happy to be sending off this skein to @LeslieTuckerTaylor with some other goodies. She was selected to get the “Lifecycle of Wool” giveaway that included raw, washed, roving and spun wool. Thank you to @mellyknits for the fabulous mastermind and leader of the TDF Stashdashers that grows every year! Also to Marina @battyfibers that brings all things Dashel to visual life! I can’t believe there are at least 3 iterations of Dashel and am so happy I’ve spent the last 3 TDFs in Melly’s amazing space.

What a wonderful surprise to be gifted these beautiful mini art batts by @knitspingrid. These lovely minis were based on this year’s Stashdasher’s Tour de Fleece mascot, Dashel. Dashel is the brain child of @mellyknits, illustrated by @battyfibers. Named after the #stashdashers, Dashel calls you to “dash your stash” (aka, spin from your stash vs. increasing your stash).

Melly and Marina do an amazing job each year creating a different theme, artwork and hype-up. (@mellyknits - please let me know if that sums up Dashel in a hundred words or less, and please let me know of any final editorial changes 😉)

Ingrid created these beautiful battlings based on the colour palette for this year’s Destination Dashel, and they were such a treat to spin. Each colourway used different ingredients that created super fun textures that changed from batt to batt. I secretly love a chunky batt spin, even if I do spin it fine with a short forward draw.

I really should have planned better with the timing of plying, as part of it happened during the England quarter final match, and clearly I was quite distracted as is evidenced in my crazy, messy bobbin.

Almost at the halfway point of the Tour, I still have Dashel on my mind and immediately started spinning @Bramble_Bridge ‘s Destination Dashel on the gorgeous base of BFL Glow (80% BFL/20% Silk). It is such a luxurious yet toothy spin - but more on that spin later.

20
