Meet one of our amazing mentors: Fred Lewin.⭐️

Some choir leaders build great performances. Others build entire choir communities. Fred Lewin has spent decades doing both.

As the founder and Artistic Director of GN/AS Gospel, one of France’s largest gospel choir organisations, Fred has worked as a conductor, composer, pianist and singer — leading choirs and developing singers across Europe.

That experience gives him a perspective that goes far beyond the music itself. How do you build a choir people want to stay in?

How do you create musical excellence without losing the people along the way?

How do you grow a strong identity, culture and sound?

And how do you keep developing as a leader while helping everyone around you develop too?

These are the kinds of lessons that only come from years of actually doing the work.

And now, Fred brings that experience into ChoirBuilders.

Watch the video and get to know one of the mentors you’ll be learning from inside the community.

This Thursday you will meet him on a masterclass inside the platform.🤩

📣 I'm going LIVE on Facebook this Friday, 19:30 BST!

Yes, it's my turn to 'run my mouth', after the recent and wonderful #MadelineAndMe3 series by @saintececile. I'll be reacting to it and answering your questions.

I do hope you'll join me, with a glass of something, perhaps 🥂

In the meantime, you can catch up on all three parts here:

I truly believe that choirs have the power to make the world a better place.

Because when people sing together, something happens.

We listen to each other.
We breathe together.
We create something none of us could create alone.

And for many people, a choir becomes much more than a place to sing.

It becomes a community.
A place to belong.
A place to grow.
Sometimes even a place that changes their life.

But strong choirs don’t just happen. Behind every choir, there is someone building it.

Someone choosing the music, shaping the culture, motivating the singers, solving problems and trying to move the whole group forward.

And very often, that person is doing a lot of it alone.

That is why I created ChoirBuilders.

I wanted to create a place where choir directors don’t have to figure everything out by themselves.

A place where we can learn from each other, from people who have done it before, ask real questions, share experiences and get access to people who have spent decades building and leading choirs all over the world.

You’ll meet incredible mentors on our platform.

But just as importantly, you’ll meet other choir directors who understand the challenges, the joy, the frustrations and the responsibility that come with standing at the front.

My hope is that ChoirBuilders will help you become more confident in your leadership, more inspired in your work — and better equipped to build the choir you want to build.

Because the more we learn from each other, the stronger our choirs can become.

And if choirs really do have the power to make the world a better place…

then helping choir directors become better at what they do matters more than we might think.

I hope you will join us on the inside.

You walk into rehearsal and everyone looks to you.

You set the tone.
You make the decisions.
You keep the energy up.
You solve the problems.
You notice who is struggling.
You hear what isn’t working.
And somehow, you’re also expected to know what to do next.

If you’re a choir director, you probably know this feeling.

From the outside, choir directing can look incredibly social.

You’re surrounded by people every week.

But the truth is, it can also be surprisingly lonely.

Because when you’re the one standing at the front, there often isn’t anyone standing beside you.

Who do you ask when motivation drops?

Who do you talk to when tension starts building in the group?

What do you change when rehearsals suddenly feel flat?

How do you know if the problem is the repertoire, the singers, the culture — or your own leadership?

And what do you do when you’re simply not sure?

Most choir directors figure these things out as they go.

Through experience.
Through mistakes.
Through trial and error.

And yes, that’s part of becoming a better leader.

But it doesn’t mean you should have to work everything out alone.

That’s one of the reasons we created ChoirBuilders.

A place where choir directors can bring the situations they’re actually facing.

Ask real questions.

Learn from experienced choir leaders and mentors who have spent decades building choirs, leading people and navigating the same challenges.

And connect with others who understand what it really means to stand at the front.

Because being the person everyone looks to for answers doesn’t mean you always have to have them.

You lead the choir. ChoirBuilders is here to support the person leading it.
