🏆❤️ PROUD TO BE A FINALIST! ❤️🏆

When my son Isiah and I first started writing books together, we never imagined it would lead us here!

What started as a father-and-son creative journey has become something much bigger. Through our books, I’m teaching my son about imagination, perseverance, entrepreneurship and sharing our gifts with the world.

But there’s an even deeper meaning behind our journey. ❤️

Our first book, The Magic Trunk, was inspired by my granddad, an incredible storyteller who brought stories to life and kept us laughing. Creating books with Isiah is our way of keeping his legacy alive. He lives on through the stories we share. 📚❤️

I’m honoured to be a FINALIST for the Power Of A Man Awards 2026! 🏆

If our journey inspires even one father to create more memories with his children and believe in their potential, that means everything to me.

🙏🏾 I’D LOVE YOUR SUPPORT!

I can’t believe it’s already been two weeks since the Black British Book Festival (@bbbookfestival). It was an honour to share the day with you all!

It was extra special taking my mentee Ben (@afro.clouds) with me, and it felt fitting to wear a t-shirt to remember my mentor, Benjamin Zephaniah (@officialbenjaminzephaniah) who helped me publish my first book!

Submissions are officially open! ✍️✨
At this year’s Black British Book Festival, we asked attendees why Black British books matter. The answers said it all: they are joy, history, representation, love, and stories that deserve to be shared with the world.

Now, your book could be next.

Marking the next chapter in a five-year partnership, the Black British Book Festival and Pan Macmillan have launched a community-led publishing collaboration to discover and publish exceptional new Black British voices. Successful writers will secure a publishing deal directly with Pan Macmillan.

This collaboration combines @bbbookfestival’s vibrant engaged community of readers with Pan Macmillan’s editorial and publishing expertise, rigour and networks. This is a community-powered publishing model designed to open up traditional pathways, discover brilliant new talent, and transform how books reach their readers.

We’re searching for undiscovered writing talent across a wide range of genres across fiction and non-fiction.

🚨 Ready to enter? 🚨

Follow the link in the Linktree in our bio to read the submission guidelines and submit your manuscript.

I’m so happy to share that we’ve officially launched our collaboration with @panmacmillan and together we’re looking to publish THREE Black British authors! ✨

Honestly, this one means so much to me. When I started @bbbookfestival , the dream was always to see more Black stories on the shelves and more Black writers getting the chance they deserve. Now we’re making that happen…creating real opportunities and bringing more Black literature into the world. 🖤

If you’ve got a story in you, this is your moment. Submissions close at 11.59pm on 30 November 2026.

October is officially Black History Month, but every day is an opportunity to learn 🖤

I was very excited to receive this incredible book in the post today from @panmacmillan @bookbreakuk written by @olusoga 😍

As a mum to two British born daughters of dual heritage, it is important to me that they grow up knowing about Black history beyond slavery.

Although that is an essential part of history to understand I also want them to know about the achievements, creativity and contributions of Black people and have people from history they can look up to and feel proud of💜

Mary Seacole is an absolute boss lady to me and someone I have long admired, particularly as a nurse myself! After being turned down when she volunteered to nurse during the Crimean War, she funded her own journey and set up the British Hotel with Thomas Day near the front line. She provided food, supplies and care for soldiers, drawing on the traditional medicinal knowledge she had learnt from her mother in Jamaica. She also took food and medicine directly to wounded soldiers on the battlefield🇯🇲🍲 ❤️

That determination to get there and help, using her own money, knowledge and resources, is a huge part of why I admire her. It frustrates me that Florence Nightingale became a household name while Mary’s contribution was overlooked for so long. I want my girls to grow up knowing Mary’s name, her story and what she achieved too.

So I was really pleased to receive Black and British: An Illustrated History by David Olusoga today. Illustrated by Jake Alexander and Melleny Taylor, it explores Black British history from Roman times to the present day. I am looking forward to sharing it with the girls, answering their questions and learning more myself along the way...

Thank you to Pan Macmillan for our gifted copy 💛

It was my absolute pleasure to bring Kid Rex To The Rescue to the @bbbookfestival alongside my fantastic illustrator @creativedewen who brought a real life (handmade!) King Dust Bunny with her!!

It felt so important to be at an event where Black Readers turned up in their numbers and showed how much hunger there is for our stories especially at a time when data seems to show representation in publishing is sliding backwards.

Hope to be back again soon #BBBF26
