As this project wraps up, we are excited to continue sharing our memories and stories.

Letters to My (Grand)Parents started as a letter exchange asking "What do you wish to know about your (grand)parents and parents? And what would you share with them now?"

At the open mic and the afterparty with Concerts in Care, mahjong, and printmaking, we shared our emotions through tears, through joy, and through play. Hearing the words and stories being said out loud felt validating but also healing. We were simply there to bond, to grieve, and to connect.

The purpose of our Letters to My (Grand)Parents was to connect young adults with their parents and grandparents and also through surrogate seniors. To understand their story, record a part of history, and begin a conversation. It became an opportunity for many of our writers and ourselves to connect with our elders in a way we weren't able to before. Across language barriers but also the cultural divide.

It became an opportunity for our young Chinese-Canadian adults to connect with their elders and a chance to meet others who shared similar sentiments.

An intergenerational connection that will be cherished and remembered for a lifetime.

This year we’re hosting Vancouver Frocktails at our FABCYCLE building on the LG floor where we have a huge room to host parties, events, workshops and all kinds of beautiful community gatherings that you know how much we love to organize.

Frocktails is happening on August 14 and we really got an incredible roster of things planned for this year.

We invite you to the launch of our Letters to My (Grand)Parents publication and Open-Mic! Featuring 10 Chinese-Canadian writers and 10 seniors, celebrate with us with Open-Mic, Concerts in Care, Mahjong, and Printmaking!

2-3:30pm: Book Launch + Readers with MC, Yun-Jou and Co-Leads, Shanna Cheng and Michelle Ha
4-4:30pm: Open Mic
4:30-5:15pm: Concerts in Care with Health Arts Society

After Party
5-6pm: Mahjong Time with Mom and Dad Cheng and Heavenly Beasts Printmaking with Chinatown Together, Gal 敏怡

Access Available: English and Chinese transcribers will be present during our Open-Mic. Our community translator, JD will be supporting us in spoken translation. Nongendered washrooms are located on LG, 3rd and 4th floor. Semi-wheelchair accessible with two elevators. Paid public parking are on Floors 5 to 7. Street parking is available.

Food and Drinks: Maxim's baked goods and tea will be provided.

*This is a mask-optional event, masks will be provided.

It was fun displaying my current creations at the weekend, feels so nice to have space to play . Thank you to all who found me in the basement of my studio building. Join @thecbrc CBRC and HIM @instahim to celebrate an art exhibition highlighting 2S/LGBTQIA+ community connection, resistance, and strength through art. March 23rd - 28th 2026 at the @bcabca_ca BCA Sun Wah Centre at 268 Keefer Street, Vancouver BC.

RISE: Reach into Self-Expression showcases the work of 21 2S/LGBTQIA+ participants from the Fraser Region of BC, created through 11 arts-based workshops designed to foster reflection, dialogue, and collective care. Together, participants explored their own definitions and lived experiences of gender-based violence, transforming personal and shared stories into powerful visual expressions of resistance.

The exhibit weaves together research and art to illuminate both the realities of harm and the enduring strength of community. Each piece stands as an act of resistance; reclaiming voice, fostering connection, and imagining safer futures.

Heartened to attend the opening of تكاتف من بحار ساليش الى فلسطين 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗳: 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗣𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲 with kiddo last night in my studio building in Chinatown. To see the artworks of 22 artists and children from the West Bank amidst the ongoing gen0c1de was moving to say the least, especially as I was trying to explain famine to the 6yo when he saw a neighbourhood poster earlier in the week.

The exhibition continues throughout this month (event poster, image 9) with another exhibition, Freedom School, and auction - 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲 - opening next weekend @vinesartsociety (images 10-12). Thank you to all for bringing these works to this coast amidst KKKanada's continued complicity.

Do not miss Rehab Nazzal's films "Canada Park" and "Vibrations from Gaza" screen as part of the Freedom School. The latter film I saw in 2023 and was absolutely stunned and moved by the children in it. Event screening donations support Amani, a young girl from Palestine featured in the film.
