Hawaii 🌺

• Seriously one of the coolest places on earth, but also one of the darkest. Being on campus at UH Mānoa and working with their BCM reminded me of ‭‭Romans‬ ‭10‬:‭14‬ ‭-“How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?”
• I’m so grateful for this trip! Hawaii and its people will always have a special place in my heart. 💗

I came into this last week ready to pour out, but I had no idea how much I would be poured into. Being surrounded by God’s beautiful creation on Oahu while our team joyfully (and perhaps goofily) worked and shared the Gospel with students was nothing short of amazing. I’m so thankful for this team that God brought together and for each person’s gifts and energy they brought. I think we all left a piece of our hearts in Hawaii!

We are overwhelmed with the generosity & help of so many ministry partners in hosting the Big Giveaway! Mahalo for donating household items, giving your time to serve, & for sharing God’s love with others. We were able to serve at least 58 international students & scholars from 20 different countries today. What a joy to serve Jesus together!

Days 9 & 10: Home

What gives you a sense of home? Having been to many places… I’ve come to believe that home isn’t necessarily about the place as much as it’s the people. This trip ended with a strong sense of home for us.
Day 9 Match Day!! We headed back to the city for outreach between Bosnia-Herzegovina/Qatar… strategy was the same as the other day: connect and pray with the hopes of sharing the gospel. We did “fit-checks” and “shoot-a-goal”. It led to prayers with Muslims, Orthodox and believers! Almost all prayers had something to do with family needs. The big one: Javi (pic in the stripes). He’s a young local dairy and goat farmer who came up from three hours away because he hardly gets out to the big city, couldn’t afford a ticket, but wanted the vibes. We got to talking and one need led to another and then he prayed an important prayer: one which allowed him into a new home! One where he is now a new family member of our good Father!!! Wow wow wow!!
We watched the match at Base Camp then enjoyed some time in city.

Day 10 started with coffee. Why not? But this wasn’t ordinary breakfast… Poverty Coffee & Cafe is part of a nonprofit serving the houseless community through housing, education and employment. Day 7 & 8: History

Today started with a visit to City Hall. Why? We weren’t sure. The Mayor wanted us to come visit his office. Why us? What we thought was going to be a brief hello turned out to be an hour long visit hearing the history of Federal Way executive leadership from the leader of the city. Fascinating. We heard words of passion, care, and the vision Mayor Ferrell had for his city. Busy man, was needed at another meeting in a city four hours away, yet he graciously sat with us to speak leadership for a whole hour! We were nobody’s yet were treated like honored guests. Like friends. We spoke Galatians 6:9 over the mayor before loading up the van and heading north of Seattle.
We met up with a sweet group of college students and their Mongolian NAMB church planter, pastor Logi. Amazing ministry at Eternal Joy church. They meet for worship at a coffee house started by Pastor Kevin of Epik Church. After hearing the story of the churches and their vision moving forward, we gathered outside to pray a prayer of gratitude for their history and for favor as they are serving in a very challenging area of Seattle.
We needed to get some muscles going so we headed to Lynnwood Baptist to help a church with cleanup, organizing areas, and taking lots of bags to a donation center. This place has a long history, originally planted years ago as the Log Cabin Church. It now is used by the main church and also a Muslim outreach led by Pastor Jonathan (the connector).
The night ended with dinner where we got to hear an incredibly inspiring history to HIS-story testimony from a Muslim who has risked it all to become a Christian. She came from the Middle East and now helps with the Muslim outreach and has to share the gospel in underground ways so not to be discovered by family members who would put her and her children in danger. We were so humbled by her incredible joy and passion for Jesus. The faith of believers who cherish the call to share in ways we take for granted because of the comfort of our culture was so convicting! (…continued in comments)

Days 3&4: Family

Originally, the plans were that as we took our showers at a community center, entry costs were per person per day. When we got there and explained our situation and that we were all at the same address, we were blessed to learn that we qualified for a one-cost family household rate that would save us hundreds and cover our whole team for our time here! A group of misfits on mission to serve others in the name of our Heavenly Father and we were graciously labeled “family” by a community center director. Wow…let that sink in!
After our morning devo- we hit a local coffee shop and made our way back to the city. First stop: a Mariners game! We cheered alongside 40k+ others as the home team took the win! Such a fun time of team bonding. Family time. We jumped into the van and head out for more family time, but with our greater Kingdom family. We joined college students and leaders from the Northwest Campus Ministries for a night of food, worship, and connections. Students from 10 different campuses were there. Such a great time to be reminded of the best home team… the family of God.
Day 4 arrived. Match Day! USA at the World Cup day. Another one of our team members, goes to school at UH and is Pawa’a CC family, and who lives in the area joined us: Lizzie! We loaded up and headed to the city. First stop: meeting Kingdom family at Hope Is Alive Church near the stadium. Some of the team stayed there to help with free coffee outreach and prayer at a big watch party area by the stadium. The rest of the team headed to basecamp by the stadium. Our task in both areas: make connections, pray with them, share the gospel. No set approach, find a way. And we did!!!! … (continued in comments) @bcmoahu @pawaacommunitychurch

Days 1&2: Hit the Ground Running

Have you ever played with those draw back and release car toys as a child? That’s how this trip has started! In the first two days, it’s as if God pulled us back… into His grace, love, power and plan… and released us full speed into the mission. We were met by our host, pastor Jonathan Lee, NAMB church planter of Connections Church, who quickly got us to our stay with just enough time to drop off, freshen up. One of our teammates, Jacobsen, who goes to UH but lives in the area, met up with us to join us for the first two days. After a quick drop off of luggage, it was load up and head off to have lunch with Federal Way’s Mayor Jim Ferrell over amazing Korean food. Also attending was the Executive Director of the Puget Sound Baptist Association. We got to hear all about the cultural and spiritual landscape of the area to prepare us for our time. We spent the afternoon doing some key cleanup projects to help partner ministries and even deep washed our borrowed van as appreciation. We finished the day with worship practice, getting to know some key leaders at Connections Church.
Showers are happening at a community center, so after a much needed cleanup, it was off to bed for an early 5am start!
The next day began… up early, hit the community center, do our daily team devo, and then off to the stadium to take equipment and set up ministry outreach Base Camp. Lunch was in Chinatown followed by a quick stop at THE Starbucks headquarters because…why not? (They gave us gifts!) Next, off to grab supplies and equipment to do a community outreach bbq at Steele Lake. Sooo many connections, gospel sharing, and invites to next things. It was exciting to see how many people groups and ages we were able to connect with!
Prayed for Jacobsen as he left us and ended the night with a quick snack, then back to the PSBA for a well deserved night of rest.

Closing my study abroad chapter in Hawai'i✨✨🌊

With hula being part of my life, Hawaii has always held a special place in my heart but being able to call it home for a while made that connection even deeper.

Over the past ten months, through new friendships, challenges, and unforgettable memories, I learned so much about myself and grew in ways I never expected.

I’m soooo grateful to everyone who supported me throughout this journey, my parents, 'ohana, roommates, friends, ku'u🫶🏼hoa, 친구, teachers, and all the amazing people I met in Hawaii.
Thank you for being part of this chapter of my life💞

Mahalo nui loa, Hawai'i.
I’ll always carry you with me.
