From CAD and material selection to fully assembled, functional components on the car. 🏎️

These images show two of the parts we manufactured for BCU Racing during their Formula Student build:

🔹 Air intake printed in PAHT-CF
🔹 Steering wheel structure printed in PPA-CF
🔹 Electronics enclosure printed in ASA

It is brilliant to finally see the components fitted, assembled and operating as part of the finished vehicle.

The steering wheel gives the driver direct access to key vehicle telemetry, while the air intake demonstrates how engineering-grade additive manufacturing can support real motorsport applications beyond initial prototyping.

A huge congratulations to the students who designed, developed, tested and assembled these systems. We are proud to have supported the team and helped turn their ideas into functional parts for the car.

Seeing the finished components in action is what makes projects like this so rewarding. 💙🏁

🏎️ Final parts. Final countdown. Silverstone next. 💙

This 6-second time-lapse captures one of the final @bcuracing steering wheels being printed in PPA-CF with an ASA support interface.

What started as an idea became prototypes, then testing, redesigns, more testing… and now the finished parts are ready.

We’re incredibly proud to have supported the team throughout this journey and to see their designs become real engineering components.

A huge congratulations to everyone at BCU Racing for completing the build. 👏

Good luck this weekend at Silverstone, we’ll be cheering you on and can’t wait to see the printed components in action on the car!

Bring it home, team! 🏁💙

10 days to Silverstone! 🏎️🏁

The final printed steering wheel sets for @bcuracing are now complete.

We printed:

✅ One complete set in Sunlu Easy PA
✅ ASA LCD enclosure components
✅ One complete set in PPA-CF
✅ Another ASA LCD enclosure set

Both material combinations came out brilliantly, and the revised design has really shown the benefit of designing with additive manufacturing in mind.

The clip shows the Easy PA print process - clean, strong and ready for the next stage.

Supporting BCU Racing has always been about more than just printing parts. It’s about helping students test ideas, improve designs, understand real materials and build confidence before heading into industry.

Only 10 days to go until Silverstone.

Best of luck to the whole BCU Racing team we’re ready for it! 🏁

PPS-CF prints and full steering wheel assembly post coming soon 👀

Version 2 is ready! 🏎️💪

After evaluating the first steering wheel prototype, the @bcuracing team went back to the drawing board and came back with a fantastic redesign.

The biggest improvement? Moving from a multi-part assembly with screws to a much cleaner single-piece design.

A massive congratulations to the students for designing this with Additive Manufacturing in mind. 👏

Good design makes a huge difference, especially when printing engineering nylons. This steering wheel was produced in Sunlu Easy PA (PA6/PA66 copolymer) using ASA support interfaces, and thanks to the revised design, the print came out beautifully with clean support removal and a strong final part.

Now it’s time for the next round of testing!

If everything performs as expected, we’ll be producing a full batch so the team has plenty of spare steering wheels ready for Formula Student.

Supporting BCU Racing has never just been about printing parts. It’s about giving students the opportunity to experiment, improve their designs, understand Design for Additive Manufacturing, and gain real-world engineering experience before they graduate.

We’re proud to play a small part in that journey.

Good luck, BCU Racing! We can’t wait to see the finished car on track. 🏁

Work with us! 🚨

Over the past few weeks, we’ve had the privilege of attending the Women’s Innovation Network and F1 Academy events, filming a podcast with BCU Racing (go watch — link in our bio), and hosting our very first event.

At Driven by Her, our goal is to create a true home for women in Formula Student. Film a fun video or an interview with the women on your team, and tag us as a creator to be featured on our page!

Have a look at our previous reels and the fabulous job done by @bcuracing! 🪩
