Appreciation post for Beabeas, for Ben and Sarah !! Our beautiful bun and pastry supplier in Westmere. Dear friends and excellent bakers. They were married in our courtyard before anyone else had experienced Blue. Delicious Beabeas pastries available at Blue every weekend 🥐

Phew, what a day at Kelmarna! Look at all these happy faces 🌞

Thank you to everyone who came along to our seedling sale last Saturday to support local food and celebrate the springtime! It was a joy to welcome so many familiar and new faces through our gates, and send off 3000+ seedlings to their new homes.

This event wouldn’t have been possible without all the wonderful people who volunteered their time, lent a hand, and brought it to life - including our friends @kokakocoffee @thelophieproject @350auckland @chance.of.sun & Good n Tensions.

A massive thank you from us, it really took a community!

P.S. Missed out on the seedling sale? We have organic seedlings available each week in our Farm Shop! Open Wednesdays 10am-4pm & Saturdays 9am-12pm 🌱

The beginnings of Sarah Tabak and Benjamin Eyres (the couple behind one of Auckland’s most popular spots, @beabeas.bakery) were seeded in the kitchens of an Auckland bakery during lockdown, where they both ended up working. And, despite only being able to see each other’s eyes for a long time (thanks to constant mask-wearing), their romance unfolded like the slowly rising dough with which they worked every day.

“Ben was already there and I came on as a casual,” Sarah recalls. “We actually didn’t see each other’s faces for the first few months… but it’s all in the eyes,” she laughs. Ben smiles in agreement: “I remember lots of after-work swims at the beach. It really was a summer of love.”

📍 Bea Bea’s, Westmere 🇳🇿
🥐 Feijoa danish - 7/10
🏃🏼‍♀️ 11.41km

Ran to @beabeas.bakery and met my friends. Feijoas are one of my favourite fruits, so I genuinely thought this was going to be an automatic winner. Look at it!!! Big golden swirls of pastry covered in feijoa and a generous dusting of icing sugar. It had everything going for it.

But idk. It was nice, just not nearly as good as I had built it up in my head. For something covered in feijoa, I wanted that tangy feijoa flavour to hit so much harder. Maybe my expectations were too high, but it looked more exciting than it tasted.

Still yum, just not the feijoa pastry of my dreams. A 7/10.

Before the pastry, Darren and I ran 11.41km through Grey Lynn, Ponsonby and around the waterfront before finishing in Westmere. But WTAF Darren?! College Hill is the worst.
