I’m so grateful to have spent the past few months with some of the best humans. People that show up authentically, support one another fervently, and inspire me to be more myself every day. To lean into the weird.
In a time that so much feels dark and heavy, I am so thankful to be surrounded by people that care, that show up authentically and love hard. In a time that it is so easy to see all the heart wrenching hatred in the world, these people remind me every day that there is so much good. It has been an absolute privilege to share space with people that love so deeply and without judgment. To be able to lean into who I am and who I want to be at my core. To embrace creativity and curiosity and nurture relationships that feed my soul and have so much room for love, kindness and compassion. There is something truly magical that happens when you are surrounded by so much love and care. Having these humans by my side has made things feel possible and brought a bit of sparkle to every day.
Care deeply, love freely, and support the people that pour love back into you. Thanks for being here and please, keep showing up for one another and for yourself. ❤️

Lots of progress being made these past few weeks!
The subfloor is completely installed! We ordered, cut and bent metal to delete windows and flashers. As the temperature drops and it starts getting colder the race is on to make this bus water tight before any big rain!

The goal for this week is to finish deleting the windows and the roof hatch that will be removed, and to get the bus framed out inside!

Still cruising away on demo! Starting to source the steel for window deletes, have pulled the heaters, and final stages of rust removal.

As we start ordering supplies, it begins to feel like a challenging balance of having what we will need for the next project or two, thinking a few steps ahead, and not ordering too many things as the only storage space we have is in the bus!

Next up: stopping any potential leaks by sealing up the roof, installing window deletes, pulling, cleaning, tinting and reinstalling the windows, running new coolant lines under the bus so that we can use the front defrosters, and sealing the floor!

When asked about the best and worst part of our time in Baja last winter the answer is the same for both: the breakdown. In the pass from San Javier to Ciudad Insurgentes we lost a brake caliper, line and shock. No bueno. Luckily, we were close to where @wazimulife had broken down the year before and knew about a great mechanic, @gonzalezpazaran so we headed that way. Ciudad Constitución isn’t a place most gringos spend a lot of time and I am truly so thankful that this is where we landed. We were quickly welcomed by everyone on the block, spending lots of time with our new neighbors. For two weeks, we had an immersive crash course in Spanish, sharing food, culture and chistes. This is time we truly cherish. We both spoke a bit of Spanish already but when all of your social interactions are in Spanish, you improve quickly. A nightmare scenario quickly turned into a blessing in disguise. @jesusraymundogutierrezalmada gracias por todo y saludos y bendiciones para tu familia y Tito desde la nuestra!

Bus build Day #3 was a lot more grinding away rust, sweeping up dust, and wishing the rust was gone already. I just kept reminding myself of why we choose this life, and the beautiful places it brings us and the even more beautiful people it allows us to know. So, here are some photos from this past winter in Baja to reminisce on (plenty more to come as I work to catch up posting photos). The pass from San Javier to to Ciudad Insurgentes, a 300 year old olive tree, Misión San Ignacio which dates to 1728, my joy upon finally being reunited with Stitch after a summer apart, and the sunset at one of our favorite campsites along Bahía Concepción. A main feature of the bus will be a couch that doubles as a guest bed so that our friends and family can finally join us on some trips! #skooliebuild #baja #bajabound #buslife #vanlife

We got a bus! Demo day #1 was a huge success. Can’t send enough thanks to @woodstockonwheels for the support and encouragement while we considered bus/engine options +knowledge and suggestions along the way, @zachlorge for answering all of our mechanical questions, @_yolilv1_ for reminding us safety & PPE is key, our friend Sam, the angle grinding champion, and @ablonde.adog.andavan for being the morale boost we needed to finish the day strong and helping us finish ripping out the floors, killing flies, and so so much sweeping! 1,720 pounds lighter and many work days ahead. Grateful is an understatement. #skoolie #skoolieconversion #thankful #demoday
