Usually, I only notice these grasshoppers when I see their eyes.
Otherwise they blend with the dry bits of leaf and moss.

This absolutely stunning moth is Bertholdia trigona. Look at the clear patches on the wings and the furry head. This has to be one of my favorite moths of the year, and it’s been a year for moths.

One more post from @cedarhillpard

A jumping spider caught a tiny grasshopper nymph while I watched. The poor nymph was still struggling to get away when I shot these.

Life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans. My mom has a broken hip. No trip to photograph moths this weekend Hopefully things go well over the next few days.

Why are insects hard to spot? I don’t know, but I think I saw a bit of lichen crawling around.

Caterpillars are incredibly diverse and sometimes blend in so well I only spot them by chance. I might even put my fingers on them without even seeing them or noticing them at all. I’m super unhappy when I accidentally squish one because I just never even saw it.

Luckily, I did notice this caterpillar while taking pics of some orchids, and although it was playing dead for a while, it did move abs let me take some fun portraits. The very last frame shows the caterpillar playing dead.

Yes, it’s pink and it has a dot on its head
