POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Over a month has passed since my departure from Bearnstow. This summer, I was gifted with the opportunity to spend 10 weeks in residency at this very special place, with some very special people. I miss the sounds, smells, sights, and spirits of Bearnstow deeply.

I carve out moments of each day to remember. I close my eyes and see myself floating, supine, Parker Pond filling my ears. I recall the volume of each cleansing breath, so amplified by the stillness of the water that breathing became foreign, exciting and new.

Thank you Reg, Fran, Molly, Bebe, KJ, spirits of creativity, and dear fellow campers. Waiting patiently for the Bearnstow tether to draw us together again. 💙🌀

about a month later, i’m remembering my generative, restorative, laughter-filled summer at bearnstow. truly a life-changing thing to live and learn among artists of all kinds from all places, all of whom have some tie that draws their heart to this special place. i long for the loon calls in the wee hours of the morning, the refreshing splash into the water at the ledges after a sweaty Saturday clean, coffee with cinnamon and allspice, floating on my back and finding the Milky Way at the solarium, dances with friends new and old, stories over dinner, writing silly songs in the kitchen, hugs, hugs, hugs, and laughing so much every day. time at bearnstow always reminds me why dancing has taken such a strong hold in my life, and I am so grateful for the 10 weeks I spent getting to know that even deeper this summer. thank you Reg, thank you Fran, thank you Bebe, thank you Molly, thank you Bearnstow! until next time! 🩵🌲🌀

An especially special week back at the sublime @bearnstow summer artists retreat in the woods and lake in Maine. Co-teaching for the first time with my long-time, amazing colleague Claire Porter. Thanks to all the willing, creative, multigenerational artists and interns, and esp. to @thefloatingbear Molly Hess, Bearnstow’s fearless leader. #dance #interdisciplinaryartist #summerfestival #danceartist #improvisationdance @karenbray27 @oliviakick @haileyfrankdance @francescapmww

Dear Jo, what a pleasure it was to have crossed paths with you during one of the best times of my life. The times we shared, I realized how beautiful your soul was. The way you spoke of your kittens and their different personalities. How you always arrived warm and welcoming to share the table with us and delight us with your peace. I'm sure you're now in the colorful wilderness enjoying everything you loved so much. Sweet dreams, Jo.

* UPDATED TIME FOR @ndubay's CLOSE-READING WORKSHOP IS 5:30-7pm ON THURSDAY 8/6*

We are thrilled to be in-residence at @bearnstow the first week of August inviting you into our practice in a new way with three evenings of open discussion hours! 4 - 5:30pm, Tuesday 8/4 - Thursday 8/6 at Bearnstow. Free and open to all. Each session will focus on a different aspect of our process. Come to all or just what interests you most. And if you can only make it to one, be sure it's @ndubay's Close-Reading Workshop on Thursday!

Tuesday, August 4th: Thinking about collaborative practice. What does it mean to ground into a slow practice? What will we discover in working together in this way?

Wednesday, August 5th: Thinking about mediums. How can the structure of a medium foster meaningful relationships between our art and our theme poem?

Thursday, August 6th: Thinking about the poem. A Close-Reading Workshop facilitated by @ndubay of our next theme poem, Danez Smith’s “in lieu of a poem, i’d like to say”. This process will focus our minds, individually and collectively, and slowly open up the poem.

We hope to gather with you on Parker Pond next week!

Celebrating our 250th birthday with #puppetsofthelake pageantry was a great salute to nature. Thx to @7_lakes_alliance, @bearnstow dancers and all of the Belgrade Lakes community for supporting our lakes! Thx also to @jeannineswallow for documenting.
