For years I have wanted to be part of an art show dedicated to the work of artists inspired by natural history, and yesterday that dream was realized and what a wonderful show it was. Thank you to the all the talented paleoartists who came together to share the fruits of their labors! And thank you to the St. Louis Prehistoric Life Show @slpls_org and the Saint Louis Science Center @stlsciencecenter for making this possible. I feel so inspired!

A lot of changes have been happening in my craft space since I last showed you around so here is an updated look for you all to enjoy! ✨️

This space is a loft above our living room and is very open. I can actually sit at my craft desk and watch TV downstairs through the open railing. My usuals are Gilmore Girls, Friends, Anne of Green Gables, Road to Avonlea and The Crown 💚💜

Anyway, I just love finding and creating little treasures to add to this space that I have curated so thoughtfully. I go thrifting a lot so it is a very fluid space that is changing constantly, I don't think I will ever be done with it. One thing you might notice that's new is the beautiful antique dresser. I actually paid only $5 for it and restored it myself. I collected several unique drawer pulls to replace the handles and the top one is actually an antique mail slot! 💕 I use it to store a lot of my larger pressed plant specimens, vintage maps, larger notebooks and my printed designsfrom my Etsy store which I organized into several accordion folders. It makes me so happy to come up here every day to create, I can't help but smile here ☺️

In addition to the large amount of things I have created myself to decorate this room, I also have several artists featured here but not limited to:
@kbandfriends
@iammrcup
@hippie.craft.fairy
@annaleebeckart
@katiedaisy_artist
@rosaliegwenpaperie
@katiebrooksart

@oldbluecrowvintage
@happycamperclothingco
@heapacres

I hope you enjoy this little glimpse behind the scenes. Please tell me what you think in the comments or feel free to ask any questions you may have but only kind words please. If it's not your cup of tea, kindly keep scrolling. Thank you!

⭐️ARTIST SPOTLIGHT⭐️

Beastie and Bone is the brainchild of multidisciplinary artist Stacia Baldwin. Born in the Midwest, schooled in New England, and established as an artist in the Pacific Northwest, Stacia is now located in Knoxville, Tennessee, where she draws on the many ecosystems she’s encountered throughout the continent and a lifelong dance with chronic health issues for inspiration.

Her intricately layered, entirely handcrafted paper artworks, linocut prints, and illustrations speak to the wild around and within us, and how the health of one is always tied to the other. Collectors of her originals are located across the world, and select works have been exhibited in museums and galleries across the US.

Currently, her focus is on exploring memento mori and paleoart, comparing endangered and extinct species of flora and fauna, and a book of paper entomology projects through Page Street.

Thor read through his Western Visions catalog and picked out some favorites from the show that are currently available. Did I bribe him to include me? I’ll never tell 🤫

All works are available through @wildlifeartjh both in-person and online. Find the online catalog through the link in my bio. All artists are tagged in their photo!

Did you know that sunflowers are one of the best-known plants for a process called phytoremediation, where plants pull contaminants out of soil or water through their roots?

"There is much to learn on decay and renewal. Low-level radioactive materials in Hagerman, ID, were packed over time into the remains of prehistoric creatures such as the Hagerman horse, Equus simplicidens, resulting in highly radioactive fossils. The native sunflowers in the area, however, are not harmed by these radioactive materials and draw them into their leaves and stems. Because of this ability, sunflowers are now used in cleaning areas of nuclear meltdown. But long before this human-adopted use, these blooms were sequestering harmful materials away. Proof that beauty, healing, and decay are a natural combination worth valuing."—Western Visions artist Beastie and Bone

Just wanted to update you all about my life lately. I’m not feeling well today, so I actually had to cancel for the market tomorrow unfortunately. I’ve also been busy lately with going to physical therapy for my feet (I have plantar fasciitis 🙄), so that’s been on my plate too. So I just put together some photos of my home, my fall decorations, and my art inspiration board filled with some goodies by a few of my fellow artist friends 🍁🎨 I really love this time of year 🎃

Video description:
A white woman with wavy brown hair, short bangs, and glasses sits in front of a wall decorated with insects. She pulls a book out of a mailer, titled Papercraft Butterflies & Moths. She pulls a white shadow box out of the mailer, and then flips through the book, showing select pages to the viewer. She flips through the book again and then holds it to her chest, smiling.

Approximate transcript: If you’re a crafty bug person you just might know Bestie and Bone, aka Stacia Baldwin, and she just released a papercraft book!! She gifted me a copy, complete with a cute little shadowbox and it’s stunning. It tells you all about different kinds of insects, and then teaches you how to make your own papercraft version using the templates in the back. It is such a stunning book, the templates are so thick and gorgeous, and I just can’t wait to get some of these up on my wall. If you like insects and you like creative projects, check it out.
