Artist Andrea Kidd decided to push the color in this dress beyond her original reference, creating a richer, more saturated blue while working to capture the sheen of satin.

“Using Ice Blue instead of pure white has made my job SO much easier!” Andrea shares. The cooler mixture allows her colors to stay vibrant while she builds the highlights and dimension throughout the fabric.

After months of work, the dress is getting close to completion, with a little more glazing using Turquoise and, in Andrea’s words, “a few other bits and bobs” still to go.

We love seeing how artists make these kinds of decisions along the way, letting the painting evolve beyond the original reference.

Do you tend to stay faithful to your reference, or let the painting take you somewhere different?

X marks the spot. Captain Kermit, Fozzie, Miss Piggy and Rizzo strike gold in this stunning piece by @beateasel, bringing the swashbuckling spirit of Muppet Treasure Island to life.

Adventure, treasure and a whole lot of Muppet chaos in one frame.

The Great Gonzo as Charles Dickens (The Muppet Christmas Carol)
Charles Dickens himself would approve. The Great Gonzo takes flight over a moonlit London in this original piece by @beateasel, capturing one of the most beloved Muppet moments ever put to film.

A tribute to The Muppet Christmas Carol and the narrator who made it magic.

🌱 A wild Bulbasaur appeared!

Artist Andrea Kidd brought this fan-favorite Pokémon to life using Richeson Oils, with special attention paid to the luminous leaves and atmospheric glow surrounding the character.

To build the background, Andrea mixed Phthalo Green Blue Shade with Cadmium Green to establish the leaf shapes. She then added a touch of Naphthol Red to the white highlights, using complementary color contrast to make the glow feel even brighter.

Because sometimes the secret to a vibrant green glow is a little bit of red. 🎨

Artist Spotlight: Andrea Kidd (@beateasel)

Meet Andrea Kidd, a Wisconsin-based artist and streamer whose work blends hyperrealism, surrealism, and imaginative storytelling. Working primarily in oil paint and charcoal, Andrea creates artwork that feels both meticulously rendered and wonderfully strange, moving between still life, portraiture, landscapes, and whimsical conceptual pieces.

Andrea’s work is rooted in detail, patience, and atmosphere. Her pieces often take familiar subjects and transform them into something more curious, dreamlike, or storybook-like. From carefully painted flowers to surreal character-inspired compositions, her art invites viewers to slow down and notice the unexpected personality within each subject.

Her artistic style is deeply inspired by literature, Alice in Wonderland, fairy tales, and the bizarre beauty of imaginative worlds. That influence gives her portfolio a distinctive voice, one that feels refined, playful, and slightly mysterious all at once.

Through her website, Instagram, and Twitch, Andrea shares both finished pieces and the process behind them, giving her audience a closer look at the time, skill, and creative thinking that go into each work.
