‘Musical weirdo and visionary’ (Vice)

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Brian Eno might be the mad scientist of music. 👨‍🔬

Not just because of the sounds he makes, but the way he thinks about music as space, environment, and system.

Put on one of his collaborations with @beatiewolfe and the question becomes less “do I like this song?” And more “where did this just take me?”

That ability to build an entire world out of sound is part of what has made @brianeno a LEGENDARY (we said it) producer, collaborator, and musical thinker for decades.

Imagine a world where songs aren’t just something you listen to, but places you go.

KCRW follows conceptual artist and composer @beatiewolfe’s journey to LACMA to visit her new sound installation with @brianeno. Brian and Beatie’s “Big Empty Country” (taken from their album 'Lateral') can now be experienced in LACMA's new David Geffen Galleries as a site-specific listening experience brought to you by KCRW. Composed specifically for the view from the Zumthor-designed bench, located along the Wilshire Boulevard overpass, this piece transforms the act of sitting and observing into a shared, immersive journey. Pick up a postcard from the box office and scan the QR code on the back to hear where sound, architecture, and the rhythm of Los Angeles converge.

If you’re coming to the museum via Metro, be sure to check out artist Karl Haendel’s playful mural, “Hands and Things” at Wilshire / Fairfax station, Metro D Line (Purple).

Lateral (which you can also find in LACMA’s shop) is one of three new records from the Beatie and Brian, released in 2025 on @ververecords.

This was such a fun time! I met some cool people and made some spontaneous art. I made a few postcards the last time Mark and Beatie Wolfe ran the Postcards for Democracy project in 2020, and a few of them made the cut. To see the old postcards I made six years ago on display today made my year!

The FEATURED PICK in this week’s issue is…Postcards for Democracy presents Postcards & Vinyl Weekend, Saturday-Sunday, October 3-4, 1-5pm at MutMuz Gallery in Chinatown.

Mark Mothersbaugh and Beatie Wolfe bring their grassroots mail-art movement back to life—and back to Mothersbaugh’s Chinatown gallery—just ahead of the midterms, turning their massive archive now standing at over 40,000 hand-decorated voter missives into a full weekend of open-door civic participation and preparation.
