Students give me hope for the future. I had a great tour and visit at McKinley Elementary in Beaverton. Thank you to the educators and staff for all you do to support students. And a special shoutout to the fifth graders for such thoughtful civics questions!

Another great conversation at our second Common Grounds coffee chat this afternoon. Thank you to everyone who joined us, shared thoughtful questions and engaged in meaningful conversation. Creating space to listen, learn and connect with our community is important, and I’m grateful to everyone who took the time to be a part of it today. A special thank you to Fly Chai for welcoming us and generously hosting today’s event. We appreciate your hospitality and support. #BelongBelieveAchieve @drinkflychai

It was a real privilege to spend time with the AVID students at Aloha High School earlier this week.

I’m always energized when I get to hear directly from our students, and their thoughtful questions and bright perspectives were a great reminder of the extraordinary potential across our district. Seeing their curiosity and commitment to their own futures reinforces why proximity to our schools matters so much.

Thank you to the staff and students at Aloha for the warm welcome—I look forward to continuing the conversation!

ABOVE AND BEYOND!

On October 6, around 1PM a suspect (pictured last) entered the school grounds of Elmonica Elementary School and stole a student’s bicycle.

Beaverton Police Youth Services Officer (YSO) Jered Lutu took the report and searched for the suspect. Last week, we shared the suspect’s photograph with our community, hoping to identify him and recover the stolen bike. Unfortunately, we have not yet been able to identify the suspect or find the stolen bicycle.

But Officer Lutu wasn’t ready to leave it at that.

Knowing this student relied on their bicycle to get to school, Officer Lutu reached out to our friends @washcobikes, shared the story, and asked if they could help.

Without hesitation, WashCo Bikes stepped up and donated a new bicycle to the student!

This is what makes our community so special. We’re fortunate to have incredible community partners who genuinely care about our neighbors and are always willing to lend a helping hand.

A huge THANK YOU to WashCo Bikes for their generosity and for making sure this student can ride to school again!

And a special shoutout to YSO Jered Lutu, who reminds us that serving our schools and community goes far beyond responding to calls and taking reports. It’s about building relationships, caring for our students, and taking that extra step to make a difference.

Well done!

🚶‍♂️🚴‍♀️ WALK & ROLL TO SCHOOL DAY! 🚓🏫

Last week Beaverton Police Chief Stacy Jepson joined Mayor Lacey Beaty and the Beaverton School District at Sexton Mountain Elementary School to celebrate Walk & Roll to School Day!

It was a great morning connecting with students, families, and school staff while encouraging healthy habits, safe routes to school, and pedestrian and bicycle safety.

Events like this are a wonderful reminder of the importance of working together to keep our students safe as they travel to and from school.

A big thank you to Sexton Mountain Elementary and the Beaverton School District for inviting us to be part of this event.
