Because She Can takes Sweden, Pt. 2 🇸🇪

Currently in Uppsala, Sweden, exploring research collaborations focused on creating more pathways for African women into AI research and PhD programmes.

From introducing young girls to their first lines of code to creating opportunities at the highest levels of technology and research, we’re slowly building the pipeline we once dreamed of.

Five years in, and there’s still so much more to build. 🥹💜

I cannot believe I get to say this: I’m an Obama Foundation Leader. 🇬🇭🌍

I’ve been selected for the 2026–2027 @obamafoundation Leaders program, joining more than 150 leaders selected from thousands of applicants across Africa, Asia Pacific, Europe and the United States.

Over the next eight months, I’ll be part of the Foundation’s Hope to Action curriculum, learning alongside an incredible community of changemakers while reflecting on my own values, leadership and the kind of impact I want to continue building.

This opportunity feels especially meaningful because so much of my journey has been shaped by community. Through @becauseshecan_ and the different spaces I’ve had the privilege of working in, I’ve seen what becomes possible when people are given access, support and the opportunity to lead.

I’m excited to be on the other side of that too: to learn, be challenged, engage with perspectives different from mine and become a better leader for the work ahead.

Very grateful for everyone who has built with me, believed in the work and been part of the journey so far.

Still processing this one. Obama Foundation Leader. Ei. 😭❤️A literal pop star 🤩

At 17, I thought I knew exactly what my life was going to look like. Medicine was my Plan A, B and C. I did not get into medical school.

Looking back now, I find it wild that we grow up being asked what we want to be when we grow up, and then somewhere around 17 or 18, we are suddenly expected to actually know. Our subjects determine our options, our grades determine which doors open, and one admission decision can feel like a verdict on our entire future.

Ten years later, I came back to @achimotaschool as keynote speaker for our @oaa2016.official Career Fair and Mentorship Programme, with a career I could not have described to you at 17 even if I tried. In a year group full of people doing incredible things, it meant a great deal to represent @oaa2016.official in this capacity.

Three things I left with the room:

To OAA ’16: Let’s put each other on. We are still so young and on very different paths. Let’s resist turning reunions into an audit of who is “ahead” and use them as grounds for collaboration. We spend so much time networking vertically that sometimes networking becomes a glorified form of social climbing. Do not underestimate your peers. Some of my biggest opportunities have come through mine, and my cofounder at @becauseshecan_ @_timyyy_ is someone I met simply because 13 years ago, two girls decided they wanted to attend Achimota.

To the students: You are allowed not to know. Be curious. Explore. Ask questions. Find mentors. You do not have to have it all figured out yet. A closed door is information, not a verdict on your life.

To our parents and teachers: Your words matter. My parents gave me the freedom to try so many versions of myself and somehow always made me feel that whatever I chose to do, they trusted me to figure it out. That kind of belief can change the trajectory of a young person’s life, especially when the plan they were so sure about falls through.

I called the keynote The Only Defeat Is Death.
Change your mind. Start again. Reinvent yourself as many times as you need to until something sticks. As long as you are here, you still have another move.

Ten years ago we sat on those steps. On the 14th, we’re back as professionals.

Doctors. Creatives. Lawyers. Engineers. Entrepreneurs. Accountants. The Distinguished Class returns to Motown, this time to give back to the ones coming behind us.

Universities, industry professionals, and mentorship that doesn’t end when the day does.
