5 things worth the money in Old Town:

1. Taking the water taxi on a nice day ⛴️
It’s obviously not the most practical way to get around, but on a nice day it’s SO worth it.
2. Flying out of DCA ✈️
Living 10 minutes from the airport is something I will never take for granted.
3. Cookies delivered right to your door from Campers Cookies 🍪
Sometimes you just need a cookie without having to leave the house.
4. A LOCAL gym 🏋️‍♀️
Yes, there are cheaper gyms. But being able to walk to your gym and support a local business? Worth it.
5. Any opportunity to learn more about Old Town’s history 🏛️
We live in such a historic place and there is SO much to learn. Take the walking tour, visit a historic home, go to a museum, or just read the plaques you walk past every day.

how lucky i am to be able to gather with loved ones, have a delicious meal, laugh loudly, dance freely, get to have a night dedicated to fun + celebration where we sit and talk about future plans + what im excited about for the decade ahead🩷... while at the exact same time, on the other side of the world there are innocent people, families and children that were not afforded the same geographic lottery that are in constant fear of death and destruction. that don’t know if their homes, communities, families will be around next week or even tomorrow.

my biggest decision of the weekend was what to order for the group, not whether it was safe to step outside. given this moment in history, the contrast is not lost on me. & entering this new chapter ive been reflective and grateful for the fullness, comfort and safety i have in my life. i love the life i have created but am acutely aware of the luck that has allowed me to do so.

most of us did not do anything to *earn* the privilege of this safety + freedom, we were simply born into it, or fortunate enough to live in a place and moment where it exists. but we do get to choose what we decide to do with it. who we stand by and fight for to get to have those things too.
