If it seems like my days are filled with hiking, scriptures, hosting, sourdough, and pickleball (sounds pretty dreamy!) that’s because my goal with what I share on IG isn’t representative of the FULL picture of my life. ☺️ That’s never my point here.

I don’t share a lot of family stuff here because I don’t use a public platform to share too much about the people who matter very most to me. And I don’t share a lot of work stuff because that isn’t the point of my personal page either.

So just for funsies I thought I’d sprinkle in just a touch of what part of my work has been recently, which is this:

In connection with the upcoming re-write / re-launch of our beloved @beckyhigginsllc Project Life app (can’t believe the app is 12 years old and we’ve had so much fun behind the scenes making it even BETTER!), I took pen to paper — literally — and personally designed a few NEW fonts to be added to the app.

So yeah, that’s kinda fun. 🤩

THE VALUE OF AN ORDINARY DAY
“Perhaps the ordinary was never ordinary. We just thought there would be more of it.” SW

Caley’s terminal, incurable Stage 4 breast cancer has changed my relationship with the ordinary.

Before her diagnosis, I documented our lives because I loved remembering them. Caley, her boys, our family, the conversations, celebrations and seemingly insignificant moments in between.

I photographed them with the quiet assumption that there would always be more.

More photographs.
More birthdays.
More ordinary Tuesdays.

Then cancer entered our family and more was no longer something any of us could take for granted.

It has taught me that the value of an ordinary day is rarely visible while we are living it.

It is simply someone you love still being here.
Still answering the phone.
Still laughing at something ridiculous.
Still appearing in the photographs.

Nothing remarkable happening.

And perhaps, that is the remarkable thing.

This is what memory keeping means to me now.

Not making ordinary life look extraordinary.

Recognising that it already was.

Caley’s diagnosis has made me want to hold onto time while simultaneously teaching me that I cannot.

I can only notice it while it is here.

Perhaps that is why documenting our lives matters so deeply to me now.

Not because every day deserves to be made extraordinary.

But because one day, the most ordinary moments may be the ones we would give anything to live again.

So today, I’m noticing the ordinary.

Q: What has life taught you about the value of an ordinary day?
