Never stop learning! Hairstroke Masterclass with @alarabrowdesign 🫶🏽

It was such a pleasure to welcome my lovely friend Lara to The SJ Training Academy to host her incredible Hairstroke Masterclass!

As much as I love teaching, I absolutely love being a student again. There is always something new to learn, and I took so much away from this class, particularly Lara’s incredible pre mapping technique! It’s so simple yet SO effective!

I’ll admit, the drawing was definitely the part I found most challenging! 😂 But that’s exactly why I love continuing my education. It pushes me outside my comfort zone, challenges the way I work and reminds me that there is always room to grow.

Feeling very lucky to have such talented friends in this industry who inspire me to keep learning and improving my craft. AND it was so fun to take the training with my SJLips student @beckyjigginspermanentmakeup ☺️

Thank you so much Lara for sharing your knowledge and bringing your talent to my academy… I look forward to your next class with us 🖤

And as always, thank you to @markedbymaiyz for the incredible content 📸

Before ➡️ healed microblading 🤍

Notice how soft, natural and even these brows look once healed. The delicate hair strokes blend into her own brows, adding fullness without making it obvious she’s had permanent makeup.

A little wax and tint for her natural brow hairs is all that’s needed now to keep them looking tidy and defined.

Just naturally fuller-looking brows, with far less effort in the mornings 🤍

Little Vlog! I keep making these and not posting them! So since I have a morning with no small kids I managed to put this together- took me 1.5hours though 😩 Vlogs are not easy! But I love how they show little snippets of the day! Let me know if you like these little vlogs of what we get up to 🥰

WHY DO I NEED A TOUCH-UP? 🤍

This is exactly why Permanent Makeup is a process, not a one-and-done treatment.

These microbladed hair strokes have healed beautifully — soft, crisp and delicate — but you can see there are areas where the pigment hasn’t retained as evenly.

And honestly? I’d sooner see a few patches than thick, blocky hair strokes that have been implanted too deeply.

With microblading, my aim isn’t to force as much pigment into the skin as possible at your first appointment. We work conservatively and build the brows in delicate layers, allowing the skin to heal before assessing what it has retained.

Some strokes may heal perfectly.
Some may soften.
Some may disappear altogether.

✨ That’s what your touch-up is for.

At your second session, we can see exactly how your skin has responded, reinforce areas that need a little more pigment and perfect the overall result.

Soft, natural brows are built in layers. Patchiness can be perfected — pigment placed too deeply is much harder to undo. 🤍

Fresh Lash Line Enhancement 🖤

Freshly done, so right now it’s looking dark, crisp and a little bolder than the finished result.

But once healed, this will soften beautifully into subtle definition through the lash line — giving the appearance of a fuller, darker lash base without looking like obvious eyeliner.

Think less eyeliner… more naturally defined eyes ✨

✨ SAME TECHNIQUE. DIFFERENT RESULTS. ✨

Combo Brows… but no two sets are the same 🤍

There’s definitely no one brow fits all when it comes to permanent makeup.

Every set I create is completely personalised to the individual client — working with your natural brow growth, brow bone structure, facial features and colouring to create brows that suit you.

The depth of shading can also be adapted. Some clients suit a really soft, subtle shade, while others may want or need a little more density and definition.

Here you can see 4different sets of Combo Brows — all created using the same technique, but all with a completely different finished look because they’ve been individually designed for each client.

Your brows should look like your brows… just better 🤍✨

Can you see how that delicate background shading brings everything together? 😍

It’s such a subtle detail, but it makes all the difference.

The soft shading disguises the transition between the machine hair strokes and your natural 3D brow hairs, creating a beautifully blended, seamless finish. Instead of seeing where your natural brows end and the permanent makeup begins, everything flows together effortlessly.

That’s the beauty of Combo Brows… all the realism of natural hair strokes, with just enough soft definition to create the most natural-looking result. 🤍

Would you have guessed these were permanent makeup? ✨

💋 Lip blush doing what it does best… restoring what time has taken away.

Over the years, it’s completely normal for natural lip pigment to fade, causing the lip border to become less defined and the lips to appear smaller or uneven.

For this lovely client, we restored lost colour and definition, creating a more balanced Cupid’s bow and bringing pigment back into the lower lip. The result? Lips that appear naturally fuller, fresher and more symmetrical — without adding any volume at all.

Just beautiful, healthy-looking lips with their natural shape brought back to life. 🤍

Healed Lip Blush Results ✨

These lips are now fully healed at 8 weeks following the initial appointment. 🤍

The first session is all about creating a beautiful foundation and seeing how your skin heals. At the touch-up appointment, I simply build on that healed result—adding a little more colour, refining any areas that have healed lighter, and perfecting the overall finish.

Permanent makeup is a process, not a one-appointment treatment. Results are created in delicate layers to achieve the most natural, long-lasting outcome possible.

I can’t wait to see these lips once we’ve added that final touch of colour. 💋

✨ The secret to natural-looking PMU? Negative space.

One of the biggest mistakes in permanent makeup is trying to cram in too many hair strokes. Freshly done, it can look impressive… but as the skin heals and ages, those strokes naturally soften and expand slightly.

If there’s no room between them, they eventually blur together, creating that heavy, solid “tattooed brow” look.

In this photo, you can see how each stroke has been designed with plenty of breathing room. That negative space is just as important as the pigment itself because it allows each hair stroke to stay crisp and distinguishable as it heals.

Permanent makeup isn’t just about how it looks on the day of treatment. It’s about how it will look in 1, 3 and even 5 years’ time.

✨ Less pigment often creates a more realistic result.
✨ Crisp strokes age better.
✨ Long-term natural results should always be the goal.

Because the best permanent makeup shouldn’t announce itself—it should simply look like beautiful brows.

This is exactly why permanent makeup isn’t a one-and-done treatment 🤍

Top: Before.
Middle: Healed after the first appointment.
Bottom: Immediately after the perfecting session.

Permanent makeup is designed to heal softly. Around 30–50% of the pigment is expected to soften as your skin heals, which allows us to build beautiful, natural results in delicate layers.

Rather than overloading the skin with pigment in one appointment, I prefer to take a conservative approach and refine the shape, colour and density at your 6–8 week touch-up.

This layered approach creates the most natural long-term results and helps your brows age beautifully over time.

The touch-up isn’t fixing something that’s gone wrong—it’s an essential part of the treatment and where we perfect all those tiny details. 🤍
