Gorgeous + pretty darn happy-making, especially when it's so heavily used that you can't hear @buteafully --who was assessing the condition of the super seating + community-built #picnictables last night--on the other end of a phone call over the joyful din. #joy #designbuild #placemaking #philly #park #play @seamaac @muralarts @philaparkandrec

Construction sites are the best #playgrounds . Not only did we have 5-70 yr olds building but as is typically the case, kids immediately started testing + #playing on the super seating structure that many of them helped prototype too. And as soon as we wrapped up for the night, immediately kids started creating elaborate stories + games for the different parts of the seating area. #mifflinsquarepark #playground #bench #philly #designbuild @seamaac @muralarts @philaparkandrec

So much #design building at #mifflinsquarepark yesterday w/ @seamaac CAGP #friendsofmifflinsquarepark @muralarts + neighbors age 5-75. So much done in so little time on the super seating. Can't wait for more today. #philly @beabuildinghero

Super pop!! Two days of rain hasn't stopped prep for this weekend's super seating community #designbuild at #mifflinsquarepark with @seamaac @muralarts @philaparkandrec CAGP + neighbors of all ages. Yeah, the super seating prototyped with everyone a few weeks ago may even glow with these largely crowd sourced colors. #4017lancaster #madeinphilly

It may not be immediately obvious, but this #mifflinsquarepark #design team's #superseating rough protype (adult + teen team members not pictured) has some pretty ingenious ideas, including: smart siting that allows viewing of both the #kataw courts + the #playground, a horseshoe shaped ramp-seat that allows for 'climbing' + seating that feels like a hug, + just about the right size of space for the types of conversations/hanging-out that they would like to do with their friends. #prototype #1 of 3. @seamaac @muralarts @philaparkandrec @buteafully @fionaonionlayers

Oh what fun + important it is to #designbuild + climb up ridiculously tall structures together in obscenely short periods of time--for quickly building team, momentum, skills, empowerment + to lure in even more participants. We had such a great time rapid prototyping new 'super sitting' areas in #mifflinsquarepark yesterday with neighbors of all ages and then had a meal together in the various prototype spaces. In just a few hours participants determined three really great sites; defined each spaces' 'use' beyond sitting; nailed the sizes; + came up with a collection of pretty great/smart initial #design concepts that we can't wait to work with stakeholders to refine into something that we will then #designbuild together in three weeks. So excited to do more with @seamaac @muralarts CAGP + all of the users + neighbors. More pictures tmrw.

Yafang turned out a super nice prototype label for the #mifflinsquarepark #picnictables that we #designbuilt with 60 #mifflinsquarepark neighbors, @seamaac , CAGP + others from downed #fairmountpark maple + ash trees thanks to Curtis + his @philaparkandrec team. So excited to head back to #mifflinsquarepark tomorrow to prototype new seating areas + honor the origin of the now heavily used picnic tables by applying these stencils to the tables (and much nicer wood than this). @muralarts #4017lancaster @beabuildinghero #buildtogether @myphillypark

We had such a great time #designbuilding some stunning #picnictables w/over 60 #mifflinsquarepark neighbors ages 5-75 + then having a locally cooked meal together when we were done on Saturday. After dinner the team placed the picnic tables throughout key areas in #mifflinsquarepark + it was fantastic to see them immediately heavily used. High fives to @seamaac @muralarts @philaparkandrec + the Cambodian Association of Greater #philadelphia. Many thanks to Curtis + his team at @philaparkandrec for the beautiful ash + maple from downed @myphillypark trees that @beabuildinghero team members further milled into stunning tops + seats. In two weeks we are headed back out to start prototyping a new area for seating + an activity tbd by the stakeholders. In mid-August, together we will #designbuild the new space. @emilybunk
