POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Abdalla Daif believes audiences shouldn’t just watch: they should question, and become part of the story. As a performance artist and social designer, he turns that belief into participatory projects like The House of Misconceptions, where visitors adopt a fictional identity mirroring the reality of migrants and asylum seekers, and The Store, where visitors are held in a secret underground space to feel what it means to be confined before the crossing to Europe. His utopia: a world without weapons, where that energy goes into healthcare and education instead.

@karlaking_____ believes art should comfort people carrying experiences like her own: migration, belonging, and identity. As a visual artist, she turned that belief into paintings shown at Art Rotterdam and community projects like Colours of Us in Almere. Her utopia is a world where people and the planet are in balance. And for herself: to reside in a treehouse in Jamaica, in a thriving community bounded by creativity and mutual care.

@andre.dmn_ believes queer people of color deserve a space where they never have to explain or defend who they are. Six years ago, they turned that belief into the Utrecht Ballroom Scene and the Ballroom Works foundation, which grew from vogue classes into major annual balls like the Summer of Pride Kiki Ball: a rare safe haven, free from racism, transphobia and queerphobia. Their utopia: walking hand in hand with a partner down the street without fear, and real government support for queer and trans people.

@juliajeja believes nature isn’t something to conquer, but something we’re part of, and that endless growth comes at its expense. She turns that belief into action as a member of the Provincial Council of Utrecht for GroenLinks, pushing for renewable energy, and by joining climate actions like the Extinction Rebellion blockades. Her utopia: a world where nature gets room to breathe again, and all energy comes from clean sources.

soundscapes from forgotten electronics and makes
new instruments from waste to challenge consumer

@zwaninesiedenburg
Zwanine Siedenburg is a street pastor and believes no one should disappear from this world without their story being heard. As a street pastor -the pastor who leads a funeral of people who live on the streets without any insurance- she saw how hard it was to do this without any background of that person. She started Walk of Life, to record the life stories of society’s most vulnerable people, so their stories could be told when they might pass away. Her dream: a world where people never lose touch with their roots, or with each other.

@beeldjutters (Graffiti Utopia 2, Utrecht 🇳🇱)

Asier Rios has illustrated Zwanine’s dream, which you can see until the end of November in Utrecht, in the tunnel near the train station.

Last van winterblues?

Nog te zien tot en met 1 februari
Elke avond van 17:00 tot 23:00 uur.

💥Volg @greetingsfromutrecht voor meer Utrecht-inspiratie!
