7 days of kwanzaa #linkinbio for full video!

directing 7 days of kwanzaa was its own beautiful chaos — kids running wild, aunties doing wardrobe, uncles hauling gear… a true family production in every sense.

we shot on @sallomazing’s birthday (juneteenth), which felt like its own blessing. between takes we were laughing, wrangling little ones, and somehow managing to catch the magic exactly as it unfolded.

we made this short to honor the traditions and principles that shape community… and to celebrate the legacy of lucile hralima (sallo’s mama), whose light and love ripple through every project we create. we made sure that a photo of lucille sat at the center of the experience. go to 7daysofkwanzaa.com to learn more.

something really special happened on that set. also, a full blown R I O T lead by the young people ensued before our last take of the day. they are fierce union leaders! lol i’m still holding this precious moment close. 🤗

thank you to ALL (you know who you are) who impressed upon this moment in our collective history. a convergence of all things i love - community, culture, and cinema. we shooootin’! keep watching as we turn this into a feature film. 🎞️ 🎥 🍿 🎬📼

We did it, village. The 7 Days of Kwanzaa teaser has officially landed!

🔥🔴⚫🟢🔥

Filmed on location in Do or Die Bed-Stuy.

In #7DaysofKwanzaa, the holiday is almost canceled — but a crew of Brooklyn kids refuse to let it die. With heart, hustle, and a little drama, they remind everyone what the tradition is really about.

Now we need YOU. We’re calling on the community: Who should produce the full film?
Which names, studios, or powerhouse producers do YOU trust with Black family stories? 👇🏾 Tag them in the comments — you might be the person who connects the dots.

🎤🎶The “7 Days of Kwanzaa” Sing-Along drops Fri, December 12. Save the date! (And yes… your kids will be singing it nonstop.)

The most rewarding aspect of creating this teaser for a film I am writing is that I got to make it with my tribe of homies, creative collaborators, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews and mentees. It reminded me of the holiday season with my big family in CA (on both sides).

But what you cannot see from looking at #7daysofkwanzaa is the GINORMOUS community that is propelling these children to live their best lives.

Thank you @ps11brooklyn @littlesunpeople @asaseyaa @macademyschool @brooklyn.blackstars @blackgirlssew @gantrygymnastics @movingmountainsinc @reelworks @liuchildrensacademy @tawcs_nyc @ifetayoculturalarts @yaa_thebillie @jamelgainescreativeoutlet @elitemartialartsbk @boltarchitecture and more!

We give thanks for you pouring into our babies. #harambee #7daysofkwanzaa #7dk #kwanzaa #kwanzaafilm #indiefilm #happyholidays
