Here’s the final two days of #igquiltfest2026 with @amyscreativeside I’m off posting onto socials until next Saturday (possibly Thursday) so I’m wrapping up this challenge today. Pics 1, 3, 5 & 9 **NOT MY WORK!** Day 30 - My must make quilt is a Baltimore one, started 18 months ago with Jo at @cowslipworkshops I’ve always admired the love and dedication put into them all. Mine will have little motifs to represent my family and loves.❤️ Day 31 - New friends’ is one of my favourite posts! Anyone else wake up in the middle of the night and decide to get up and start a new project? At 4 am this morning I’m in my sewing room gathering cut squares and Christmas fabrics to work on some appliqué circles. I had a bunch of 4” squares already cut so I decided to use those with circles traced from a mason jar top (just under 3”). I’ve admired Barb’s @beeschip1 circle pillows and quilts and would love to make one. For now I’m making circle blocks for mug rugs and experimenting with different types of appliqué. Needle turn method first. Now for coffee …. I’m claiming this all on the Merry & Bright tin. It was calling for a project. #qpplique #quiltersofinstagram #needleturnappliqué #quilters #sewyourstash

Still plodding along on the hand quilting and happy that I’m now half way through all the panels. It’s getting tedious at this point which is not surprising having done 96 days of hand quilting on it. Most mornings, I’ve been nibbling away at hand piecing the Jane Stickle quilt blocks to give me a bit of a change. #trailingvinesquilt #handquilting #dearjanequilt #handpiecing

I was asked by a couple of people if I could show my quilting up close so here goes. The first photo is a close up of Susan McCord’s vine quilt I found on the internet for comparison. The rest of the photos are close ups of what I’ve done. Hopefully you can see that I’ve quilted around the appliqué first closer than Susan’s quilt and then echo quilted the shapes. My focus at the moment is hand quilting and I’m loving it. On my 5th panel out of 13. The backing is very plain as I wanted it to look like a whole cloth on the back. Aiming for a finish this year. #trailingvinesquilt #handapplique #handquilted #finehandquilting #reproductionquilt #susanmccordquilt

Ta dah!! The trailing vines quilt top is done and I’m so happy to have reached this stage. Thanks to all of you that have left lovely comments that have helped keep me motivated and especially to those of you who have joined in the making of this version of Susan Mccord’s masterpiece quilt. I had a most productive couple of days and have prepped the remainder of the leaves for the whole quilt top. I’m half way up panel 13 so the end is nigh. I’ll be thrilled when all the panels are joined and I can move onto the next stage. To date, I have sent out this pattern to over 80 people! My favourite leaf is this polka dot one and channeling @once_upon_a_quilt to show a teeny skinny leaf, it can be done. I’m nearly done with the current panel so thought I’d get a head start on prepping the next one. It would take me a very long time to cut out 235 paper leaves so I’m grateful my Scan ‘n Cut can do it for me in a fraction of the time and save straining my hand muscles. #trailingvinesquilt #susanmccordquilt #handapplique #reproductionquilt

Panel 11 of the vine quilt washed with a colour catcher at last. I like to iron my appliqué wrong side up on a fluffy towel in a circular motion with a steam iron. I’ve already started panel 12 (last photo) which means the end is getting nearer. My prep takes quite awhile as I’m making leaves individually rather than strip piecing fabrics.
