The standard 90-degree corner wouldn’t cut it for a landmark neighborhood. At @boerumplace in Cobble Hill, Brent Buck Architects and @brooklandscape are redefining modern multi-family design. Their goal is to create a soft, sculptural, monolithic facade that pays homage to Brooklyn’s historic masonry while making a distinctly modern statement. To achieve seamlessly fluid corners, standard field brick isn’t enough. Our team manufactured a custom 8-inch-radius external radial stretcher to wrap the building’s geometry seamlessly, without sharp lines or awkward joints. By utilizing this dedicated external radius shape instead of standard square units, the masons can maintain a continuous, uninterrupted bond pattern across the entire city block footprint. Paired with the rich, molded character of our Belcrest 500 brick, the facade dynamically catches light throughout the day, enhanced by deeply inset window reveals and structural arches. Currently under construction, this project exemplifies how custom clay shapes can elevate architectural form from a simple wall to functional art. When 0.1 inches of drift imperils the design: How BKSK Architects achieved perfect alignment on Manhattan’s newest landmark. Most modern facades appear flat, but for @thevillagewestnyc in Greenwich Village, BKSK aimed for something entirely different: historic depth and pronounced cast shadows. Achieving this vision required an innovative approach: ▪️ A custom-molded blend created by The Belden Brick Company for the middle and upper tower ▪️ Cylindrical brick columns featuring both recessed and projected brickwork. ▪️ Custom header shapes with a full 8-inch return into the facade wall. The primary engineering challenge? Achieving precise dimensional alignment. With terra-cotta bands installed between floors, our molded brick had to be dimensionally precise so that materials from two different manufacturers aligned correctly. We’re thrilled to share that our addition to PS 108X in the Bronx has been recognized with the 2026 PCI Northeast Showcase Award | Best in Precast: K-12. A huge shoutout to Project Architect Connie Cheng, RA, whose dedication to the intricate precast detailing made this façade what it is. She attended the showcase to accept the award on our behalf, and we couldn’t think of anyone more deserving to be there! Adding onto a beloved 1937 school is no small feat. Our design honors the campus’s Art Deco character through 277 custom precast panels spanning 34,000 SF, featuring thin brick, custom form liners, and carefully detailed reveals that bring shadow, rhythm, and depth to the façade. Additionally, the insulated precast system delivers a high-performance envelope that keeps students comfortable, reduces energy use, and is built to last.
