NIGHT BLOSSOM and CURRENT CONNECTIONS at @themacmuseum - so beautiful! 💛
Very happy I got to see these exhibitions in person and only wish I could have danced with Catherine McGuiness and @shan_turner_carroll at the opening - am compensating with some fancy opera.
Lovely to run into @ellie.hannon and @jasmine_kean while there and have a long chat to Uncle Doug Archibald (how stunning is that possum skin cloak?)

Yapang @themacmuseum currently has an exhibition collaboration of five artists and their interpretations of the environment in the Lake Macquarie region.
One of these artists @belindastreet has presented 3 abstract expressionist paintings and a sculpture, all of which had me returning for a closer look after exploring the other artists work. The movement in her brushstrokes perfectly capturing the motion of both Newcastle Harbour and Lake Macquarie.
She also has art on exhibit at the moment as part of Upriver Downriver @maitlandregionalartgallery
Both galleries will be displaying her work as part of their current exhibits for the next few weeks.

What happens when five artists respond to the same place?

'Current Connections' brings together the work of David Collins, Sally Stokes, Belinda Street, Leah Thiessen and Ana Young, each responding to Lake Macquarie in their own unique way.

We sat down with Belinda Street and Ana Young to talk about place, process and the ideas behind their work.

'Current Connections' is on view at MAC yapang until 20 September.

~Current Connections: David Collins, Sally Stokes, Belinda Street, Leah Thiessen and Ana Young~

On view at MAC yapang until 20 September.

Each artist in Current Connections immersed themselves in the landscapes of Lake Macquarie, creating their own personal responses to the region. Through painting and sculpture, they capture fleeting moments and quiet details: sunlight dancing across the water, glimpses through branches, swaying grasses, drifting clouds, and melaleucas glowing in the changing light.

As you move through the exhibition, you are encouraged to slow down, look closely, and discover your own interpretations of these familiar landscapes.

Upriver DownRiver is on till 11th October at @maitlandregionalartgallery. Featured in this reel are the following: a stunning portrait of artist Toby Cedar by @belindastreet which was puchased by the gallery this year. Work donated by the artist @danimarti0 - I first saw Dani’s work at the Gallery whilst his exhibition O Canola was on show and it did make me go OOOOHh! Last bit by no means least are the works of @toby_cedar_art telling stories of his Country. ❤️space. All beautiful work in a fabulous space

What a night!

Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate the opening of our new exhibitions, ‘Current Connections’ and ‘Studio A – Catherine McGuiness: Night Blossom’.

A special thank you to our exhibiting artists, Councillor Matt Schultz, and the Studio A team for celebrating with us, and to everyone who helped make it such a fun evening!

We can’t wait to share more from these exhibitions! In the meantime, pop in and see them for yourself.

‘Night Blossom’ is supported by the NSW Government through Create NSW and is presented in conjunction with Studio A, a Sydney-based leading supported studio for artists with intellectual disability. ‘Night Blossom’ was originally commissioned by Mosman Art Gallery and curated by Shan Turner-Carroll.

A wonderful winter’s evening out at MAC yapang for the celebration of two amazing projects and the colourfully illuminated Curious Legends.

The first project was Studio A Artist Catherine McGuiness’ exhibition “Night Blossom,” an array of evocative, colourful and playful artworks.

The second project was an exhibition entitled “Current Connections.” This exhibition showcased five artists (Belinda Street, David Collins, Sally Stokes, Leah Thiesden & Ana Young), who took a two-week residency here in the City, which then inspired their works interpreting our local landscapes. Belinda Street’s work capturing the ever- beautiful Lake Macquarie, was a standout for me.

All-in-all a great night and a wonderful celebration of some very talented artists.
