‘(the Act of) Smell-ing’

A continuation of the ongoing research into olfactory memory and ancestral identity within ‘My Self, the (Unfamiliar) Roots’. (2024/2026)
—

Following its first experiment in Bandung (2024) and its first embodiment in Yogyakarta (2025), ‘(the Act of) Smell-ing’ continued to unfold in Arnhem (June 2026). The process thus far expanded into an evolving (participatory) odor archive, abstinence performance and a collective textile work; alongside an essay publication, screen prints and a sound piece.

At the centre of the work remains the body’s ‘odor print’: an intimate, biological trace that cannot be seen, but carries the marks of time, environment, movement and lived experience.

Rather than treating scent as something to be reproduced, the work continues to ask what happens when we approach smell as a form of embodied knowledge: what can the body remember, carry and transmit beyond language, image or conscious recollection?

From Indonesia to the Netherlands, from Yogyakarta to Arnhem, the work now continues to Maastricht as part of the Nederlandse Dansdagen.

Pass by at Theater aan het Vrijthof, Maastricht until October 9.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the work, the research and its continuation up until now. Footage by Eva Broekema, Sascha Lekatompessy, Rinus Baak, Maria Angelita, Lisette Ros. 🤎🙏

Meet the two people taking us through this one.

Muhammad Irwansyah ( @irwan.motion ) & Bella ( @bellabailaa ) will be leading our Yoga x Calisthenic session at FirstLap.

And no, it’s not simply half yoga and half calisthenics.

The two are meant to work together. Calisthenics is used to build the strength, stability, and body control needed before working toward a peak pose in yoga, giving the body a stronger foundation to explore those poses with more comfort, control, and safety.

So rather than forcing the body into a pose, we spend some time preparing it for one.

Yoga x Calisthenic
Friday, 9 October
7.30 — 9.00 AM at FirstLap

Registration is still open through the link in our bio.

We’re doing this again, but a little different this time.

FirstLap x Apetorium 2.0 brings Yoga x Calisthenic to FirstLap, with Bella ( @bellabailaa ) & Irwan ( @irwan.motion )

It’s a session where yoga meets bodyweight strength training. The calisthenics part helps build the strength, stability, and body control needed to work toward peak poses with more comfort and safety.

Friday, 9 October 2026
7.30 AM — 9.00 AM
FirstLap Coffee
IDR 100K — includes one drink from our Smoothies or Refreshers selection.

Registration is now open.
Link in bio.

See you on the mat.

I’d like to say a big thanks and send lots of love to my coach @bellabailaa for accompanying me on my yoga journey from the very beginning up to this 6-months.
Of course, @selarasa.yoga is the first place where I fell in love with yoga.

Sending love to all of my coaches who have guided me from a complete beginner until now, and to all of my friends who always support one another.
I love sharing this positive energy with all of you guys!

Best venue at @mugyathevillas.pakem

Kind regards.
