Have you spotted these fun, playful + bright utility boxes around Bellevue?
👉 bvue.co/artwraps

Since early 2021, Bellevue has been working with local visual artists living on the Eastside to design artworks that can be digitally reproduced on a 2-dimensional vinyl wrap for utility and signal boxes. To date, some 25 utility boxes in Bellevue have gotten artistic treatments from 17 local visual artists.

See if you can spot them next time you are out in Bellevue. Here are 11 installations right in downtown Bellevue.

#TBT to the PNW! Throwing it all the way back a couple weeks, when Jordan and Brandon worked with the Bellevue Arts Program on three performance pieces for Bellwether 2020, under the creative direction of Ben Beres.

“Kaleidoscape: Hellebore”, 2020 (digital video/photography/processing), augmented reality (AR) print w/ animation
.
This was the very first of my meditative Kaleidoscape motion pieces that are currently featured in [placeholder] @soilart. This work was created during my @bellevueartsprogram 2020 Winter-Spring art residency @bellevuebotanical

My process of building these audio/visual animations involves many procedural steps...beginning with the gathering of audio/visual source material collected from the field...much like a plein air painter would prepare a palette. The experimental field-based iPhonography methods I use include a range video/audio editing + processing, macro photography, 3D rendering, cinemagraphs, 360 photography/video (Nano360), underwater photography (GoPro) and slowmotion/stopmotion video.

The AR prints are set up with the @Artivive app so that viewers can activate the animation via their mobile phones. Make sure to download the @artiviveapp before you visit @soilart gallery so you can fully experience the Kaleidoscapes on view.

[placeholder] @soilart opens tonite! This is one of the pieces I’m showing. “Kaleidoscape: Euphorbia, winterberry, lichen, Japanese maple”, 2020 (digital film/photography/processing)

I am excited to be showing w the new members of @soilart and w the @seattledeconstructedartfair. I am sharing some of the digital and printed work I created during my recent art residency at the Bellevue Botanical Garden. I work with a suite of mobile, digital + virtual tools that allow me to capture + process visual/audio material I gather in the field. My work is best categorized as ‘Post-Net’...art created through dynamic mobile and virtual interfaces and presented/shared across traditional, experimental and online platforms.

I will be posting many of my 'Kaleidoscape' animations here on IG throughout the run of the show. My pieces up at SOIL are fine art augmented reality (AR)prints....and if you download the Artivive app, you can point your phone at the images to bring my animations to life. @ARTIVIVE
If you are not venturing out much these days...stay tuned. I can show you how to print out some of my Kaleidoscapes images and use the @artiviveapp so you can view them from home. Sort of like getting flowers delivered to you door. Hope you’ll try it out..I can walk you through the process. 🌺

Today is the beginning of National Public Gardens Week #nationalpublicgardensweek. I'll be posting all week on my co- #artistresidency with @gentremblaze at @bellevuebotanicalgarden which has been funded by the @bellevueartsprogram.
DAY 1: Introductions: I am Nathan DiPietro @nathan_dipietro, a #painter and #digital artist focusing on #botanicalart and #contemporarylandscape. I primarily use #virtualreality creative tools like #tiltbrush and #adobemedium in conjunction with #photogrammetry. With classical training as a painter, I am inspired by the possibilities of transferring my knowledge of painting to VR. It has opened up a world of infinite space and distance, along with a few super-powers. Looking forward to sharing my work and process with a wider audience.

Images: a selection of digital, virtual and traditional work. (top left - bottom right)

1. Maple Tree, 2020, digital render, created in virtual reality #VR using TiltBrush/Adobe Medium
2. Carnival Glass Flowers, 2018, egg tempera on panel
3. Northwest Forest Scene #1, 2018, digital print
4. Bloedel Projection, 2020, digital render
5. Port Ludlow Summer Bouquet, 2019, augmented reality video over giclee print
6. Forest Undergrowth Form, 2019, augmented reality video over giclee print mounted on lightbox
7. Marymere Falls, 2020, digital render
8. Forest Clearing Construction, 2016, egg tempera on panel

Here's a recap of my portion of Bellwether Festival 2019 by @bellevueartsprogram & @suttonberesculler This year's theme ‘Taking Root’ prompts "a series of investigations into notions of identity, resiliency, change, sustainability, cultural exchange, and intentionality." •
As a curator I chose to highlight 3 contemporary Japanese American artists @_yokenji @mari.shibuya & @wakudastudio, focusing on Japanese imprisonment and its legacy in our current political climate. Kenji's 6,000 sqft mural titled ' White Ashes 9' depict strawberry plants intertwined subtly w/ barbed wire. Mari's 3 panel piece documents the immigration, incarceration, cultural assimilation, & cultural impact of 3 Japanese American families. Wakuda combines stencils & aerosols with Ukiyo-e landscapes telling the story of Japanese gardens & its agricultural history in the PNW. You may visit these works along the Grand Connection in Bellevue this week if you missed out on last week's festivities.
•
More info on my curatorial project is at: https://sodatsu.home.blog (link in bio). It was an immense honor to work with everyone and I'm thankful of the opportunity to be apart of the curatorial team for this event.

Major THANK YOU, to everyone involved in the front and behind the scenes of this incredible 6th edition of While Supplies Last: Museum Edition, at Bellevue Arts Museum. To be involved with the Bellwether Arts Week, programmed and hosted by @bellevueartsprogram, is such an honor and we are glad we have been able to bring the ever-growing project of WSL to a wider audience in a new and accessible location ✨ This project manifests from the mutual beliefs of bringing accessible and affordable art to communities who support it, and provide alternative opportunities to start collecting. THIS SHOW TAKES A VILLAGE.
