Mickey Cartin spent four decades assembling an art collection that is as sprawling as it is eclectic. At his Greenwich Village loft, he enlisted the Dutch architect Ben van Berkel to design a home around the works while his longtime curator Steven Holmes was in charge of the placement of this treasure trove. The collector‘s 5,800-square-foot residence is now on the market for $10,000,000, while more than 80 works will be offered at a series of sales at Christie’s in New York, London, and Paris starting next month and running through July 2027. The line-up includes a Giorgio de Chirico self-portrait ($180,000–$250,000), a Roman Opałka canvas ($400,000–$600,000), and a Renaissance manual on eye surgery, to name a few. Inside the 12 East 12th Street space, now being sold under Compass with Christine Miller Martin, Cartin liked to mix it up: A minimalist Agnes Martin painting might appear alongside a 16th-century Madonna or a psychedelic resin piece by Fred Tomaselli. Cartin had little interest in organizing his collection by period or medium, and Holmes took his cues from the collector’s instincts. Van Berkel, who became friendly with Cartin through the board of Connecticut‘s Wadsworth Atheneum Museum, brought that same sensibility to the apartment’s design. After considering several properties, they settled on a loft inside a 1907 pre-war building in Greenwich Village, where the architect set about balancing the demands of an extraordinary collection with the leisures of daily life. I am thrilled to reintroduce 12 East 12th Street, Residence 9NS, alongside a fabulous profile of this one-of-a-kind Greenwich Village collector’s loft in @cultured_mag Famed Dutch architect Ben van Berkel designed this spectacular 5,800 sq ft apartment to house a 1,700-piece art collection. The impressive gallery walls spanning the 80-foot central living space curve and undulate, highlighting van Berkel’s signature fluid geometry. Two bedroom suites offer breathtaking views over Greenwich Village to the downtown skyline including a view of the Freedom Tower. Stunning by day and night. Offered at $10,000,000 with incredibly low monthly common charges, please reach out to schedule a private viewing. Many thanks to @saholmes99 @ben_van_berkel @samfalb @angela_montefinise and @sarahgharrelson and to @ellsweig for making it happen!

A step becomes a seat, and a sofa becomes a stage. At @sancal’s Experimentarium at @feriahabitatvalencia, dancers @sandra.egido and @ivan.sier turned Gradas into a stage, exploring our seating collection through movement and bringing to life the social spirit of the public squares that inspired it. Thank you to Sancal for making room for experimentation. Learn more via the link in bio. Images ©Sancal

For World Architecture Day, we could have talked about UNS projects. But honestly, none of it would be possible without the people behind them: the ideas, expertise and commitment that bring our work to life every day. Thank you to the global UNS team. Take a moment today to share a compliment with a brilliant colleague... They can go a long way.

As Europe’s energy transition accelerates, technical infrastructure systems face growing pressure to perform while responding carefully to their surroundings. We see this as an architectural opportunity: bringing technical precision, operational performance and spatial quality together. From laboratories designed around advanced equipment to highways, waste facilities and electrical substations, each project responds directly to complex technical demands. Form, material and landscape help reduce visual impact, organise movement and establish a considered civic presence. Explore these featured infrastructure projects via our website, link in bio.
