A real flagstone floor is heavy. It’s usually a thick mortar bed with a thick stone on top, and that brings structural considerations along with it.

The homeowner wanted a flagstone mosaic anyway, so she came up with a better route. Large format tiles, broken by her son and then put back together. Paulo, our tile setter, was right at home with the approach, though it would push some setters out of their comfort zone.

The other detail here is the curbless entry. There’s no step into the shower, and no trip hazard. That detail has to be planned back in structural design, so the floor depth can be relieved to fit the pitch, the drain, and all the tile prep. It’s a big win for aging in place, and it makes the whole bathroom feel seamless. #Edgecraft

Better trade programs start with better-trained teachers. 👊 This summer, we teamed up with IMW Group and Ben Bogie for the first-ever Trade Teacher Summer Camp - three days of hands-on learning to help educators bring real-world building skills into the classroom.

We're proud to invest in the teachers who are building the next generation of skilled trades!

IT WAS INTENTIONAL TO NOT WRAP THE BENCH...in conversation with the client, the result was to dead end both benches on the side of the spa, but to reserve the end of the spa to be able to stand and take in some beautiful lake views....just imagine an 8' wide X 9' high picture window to take in this view...

WHAT DO YOU SEE ?....I see 142 feet of fascia that is straight!! No in out, no excuses, just diligence and conscious framing. Dustin the framer knocked it out of the park on this long fascia. I know I can easily draw a 142 ft straight line, my job is easy....but Dustin proves his value at every step on our Safe Haven project.....

Construction creates a lot of waste, and some of what gets thrown out is perfectly good.

On this house, we chose to give a few things a second life. The doors are reused, and in the powder room an old bureau has become the vanity. Furniture like this is often well built and in great shape on the outside. The drawer slides and drawer sides are usually what wore out over the years, and those are easy to rework.

We’ve done this detail a few times now. It keeps a solid piece of furniture in use, and it gives a room a character you can’t pick out of a catalog.

TRUCKS HAULING, CRANES LIFTING...gents giving direction , panels landing, things getting leveled, panels getting sealed, it is in fact a symphony of tasks, and I love the music. @thetruebuild is handling this with the upmost professionalism....

YEARS AGO IN A DIFFERENT TIME....I was a truck driver. The biggest fear of a driver is the fear of their cargo getting damaged or worse, falling off the truck. When dealing with transporting basically the same cargo, its cool to see how they solve for the safety and care of that cargo.....

A LITTLE SIDE STORY....in 1968 TWA Flight Attendants wore a uniform made from a material we pretty much know as Tyvek. They reference the uniform as Pajamas, I hope they were comfortable because I just don't see it...

PRECAST FOUNDATION SYSTEM is not just walls, but precast footings also. Our Engineer provides the point load conditions and Superior Walls develops the appropriate precast footings....I find it to be a very favorable system
