Sistanagila en France!

We’re very happy to return to France this October for two special concerts in Toulouse and Lyon – this time featuring the wonderful clarinetist Shelly Ezra.

Sistanagila brings together musicians with Iranian and Israeli roots from Berlin and creates a musical dialogue between the rich traditions of Iran and Israel – from Persian melodies and Jewish musical traditions to new arrangements and our own compositions.

Sistanagila hatte die Ehre, am 16. Juni 2026 im AXICA im Rahmen der Initiative Berlin gegen Antisemitismus aufzutreten. Anlässlich des fünfjährigen Bestehens der Initiative kamen rund 200 Gäste aus dem Berliner Partnernetzwerk sowie aus Wirtschaft, Wissenschaft, Kultur, Sport, Verbänden, Politik und den jüdischen Gemeinden zusammen, um gemeinsam ein klares Zeichen gegen Antisemitismus zu setzen.

Berlin galt über Jahrzehnte als eine weltoffene und vielfältige Metropole. Heute erleben wir jedoch einen dramatischen Anstieg antisemitischer Vorfälle und ein gesellschaftliches Klima, in dem sich viele Jüdinnen und Juden zunehmend unsicher fühlen. Antisemitismus darf niemals zur Normalität werden. Gerade deshalb sind Initiativen wie Berlin gegen Antisemitismus heute wichtiger denn je.

Last week, performing with the Sistanagila Ensemble at the Sylvanès Abbaye Festival.
The group suggested we perform Sar Omad Zemestoon (Winter Is Over). I looked at the lyrics again:
“The mountains are covered with tulips.
The tulips are awake.”

At that moment, performing this song wasn’t about whether it once belonged to a political movement or not. It became a way to express everything I’ve been feeling over the past months.
As I sang about the red tulips, I thought of all the young people who fell, one by one, on the streets of my country, Iran in the fight for freedom. I wanted people who don’t know this story to hear it through music.
