Hi friends—I’m reading at Stanford next week with @jiachen_o_jiachen and introduced by the amazing @bhion_achimba. We would love to see you there! They ask you to register—but no one will be turned away. And since I’ve been off of IG for a bit I’m posting here a photodump of some stellar recent readings, plus a photo of my awesome first year Stegner poet cohort and some horses and a dog and new ID.

One week from today! We welcome Benjamin Gucciardi to celebrate the release of his latest poetry collection, ARGUMENTS, out now from @perseabooks. Gucciardi will be joined by fellow poet Cintia Santana, with special readings by students from the Ruth Asawa School of the Arts. Free to attend, RSVP appreciated. Do so at the link in our bio or at greenapplebooks.com/events. See you then! 🟠About Arguments🟠 Winner of the 2025 Lexi Rudnitsky Editor’s Choice Award, Arguments is an innovative collection that explores inner conflict, ethical action and the eroding ties between self, family, community and the land. In “Anima Hominis,” Yeats writes, “We make out of our quarrels with others, rhetoric, but of the quarrel with ourselves, poetry.” Arguments by Benjamin Gucciardi takes that inner quarrel as its starting point. Written in a time of environmental collapse and social unrest, these poems confront the contradictions that shape contemporary life: how to make a self, a family and an ethical life within exploitative systems that demand complicity. Moving through domestic spaces, a climate activist camp, and landscapes of the American West, the collection blends lyric and formal poems to ask urgent questions: What responsibilities to we bear to one another? How are we entangled in the systems we seek to dismantle? What place does violent resistance hold? How do we sustain an inner life in a material-driven world—and how, in the face of grief, do we balance private mourning with collective obligation? Arguments turns to language as a practice of care, tending the fragile links between self and community, human and non-human, the living and the dead. . . . . . [ID: Graphic reads “Ben Gucciardi featuring Cintia Santana, and poetry by students from the Ruth Asawa School of the Arts. Thursday, Oct. 15. 7pm. 1231 9th Ave (Inner Sunset). Free to Attend, Please RSVP. See here how this book and its author turned the day into night, conjured owl songs and sirens, gathered a hundred plus people in the redwoods and fed them with spoken song. ARGUMENTS by @benjamin_gucciardi is a triumph. As a friend @hannahsmomma said the other day, “I felt like this book took out my heart, washed it, and put it back in my body.” Thank you to everyone who came to celebrate last night, or who was there in spirit (so many of you), to the friends who helped plan and organize and hauled stuff into the woods, to the kids climbing and hopscotching in the background, to the hooting owls and the redwoods, to @eastbaybooksellers for selling (out) the books (!) — and of course to Jesse Nathan for his introductions that turned the reading into a ceremony, and to @aracelisxgirmay who shifts the weather when she reads and speaks. Get this book, folks. I’m biased as hell but I swear you wont regret it. Just ask the owls! —
