At some point someone told you your knees should never go past your toes when you squat. It’s one of the most repeated rules in the gym, and it doesn’t hold up very well.

Your knees travel past your toes every time you walk down stairs. Force them back in a squat and the work shifts to your hips and lower back. Direction matters more: knees tracking in line with your toes, without caving in.

We’ll be coaching this one at Big Lifts in Prestons on Sunday 25 October.

Send this to your squat buddy who still says “knees behind toes”

School went back today and there’s a good chance you’ve already written yourself a new plan. Five sessions a week, early nights, the lot. Most of us have written that plan at some point.

By Thursday there’s a late meeting, a permission note and a kid with a cough, and the plan goes quietly into the drawer until the next fresh start.

The busy people we train in Prestons who stick with it tend to do one boring thing. They book their sessions into the calendar like a meeting with their boss and treat moving one like moving that meeting.

Send this to your friend who’s on fresh start number four.

Once a coach has drilled “hips back, brace, keep it close” into you, there’s no going back. Pens, socks, a single grocery bag: all getting the full setup.

Send this to the gym friend who braces before picking up their phone ☎️

Every fitness account will tell you to pick the hardest habit and push through. That advice is exactly backwards, and it’s why it doesn’t stick.

Confidence builds consistency, not the other way around. Pick the one thing you’re actually confident you’ll do again tomorrow, even if it’s small, and let that be the whole win for today.

We’re closing Strong Start Trial spots tomorrow.

Comment STRONG today if you want help finding where to start.

The question we get asked more than any other before someone’s first session: what if I don’t know what I’m doing? Here’s the honest answer, you’re not expected to.

Session 1 is a movement assessment. Your coach watches how you move, asks what’s been bothering you, and builds that first session around what they find. No workout thrown at you before anyone’s actually checked how your body moves.

An assessment beats a guess every time, and that’s the difference this first session makes. A handful of Strong Start Trial spots are still open.

Comment STRONG if you’d like to see for yourself.

You missed one session and now you’re thinking about quitting the whole thing? That moment matters more than the missed session ever will.

Perfect weeks aren’t real. The people who actually get results are the ones who show up again after missing one, not the ones who never miss. So instead of chasing a perfect week, pick one thing small enough that missing a day wouldn’t wreck it, and just keep doing that.

We’re heading into the second week of our Strong Start Trial sprint, and spots are starting to go.

Comment STRONG if you want help finding your one thing.

Ever walked into a gym, looked at a machine, and hoped nobody was watching while you guessed how to use it?

That’s the exact feeling personal training with us is built to remove.

There’s no back row to hide in, and no floor of unfamiliar machines you’re left to figure out alone. Every program is written specifically for you, and your coach is right there adjusting it as you go, not walking past every few minutes to check on someone else.

It’s exactly why people who’ve felt lost at a big-box gym before finally stick with training here.

Comment STRONG if that’s the support you’ve been missing.

New pieces from @compoundfitnessaus arrived and passed quality control before we even finished building it. George and Stanley don’t miss.

This is what a session at Habitat looks like.

No crowds or waiting in line to use equipment. No wandering around guessing what to do. You’ll have a coach every session and a program built for exactly where you’re at.

We’re a private personal training gym in Prestons: by appointment, never crowded, built for people who are busy and done starting over.

New here? Enquire now and we’ll take it from there. Link in bio.

No AI can build this.

The people who show up on the days they don’t feel like it. Who cheer for someone else’s personal best like it’s their own. Who somehow make 6am feel less awful just by being there.

That’s the part nobody tells you about when you join a gym. The training gets you results. The people keep you coming back.

Come and see what we’re building at Habitat 💪🏼
