join me tonight at sunnyside for a little magic with this brother Ben Sollee as we set the intention for an amazing week ahead!

this special tlc experience is a yoga nidra style class, inviting you to get cozy, lie back on your mat or a comfy chair, and settle into that dreamy space between waking and sleeping. i’ll guide you through a meditation while ben sollee creates a live ambient soundscape to carry you inward.
no movement, no effort, nothing to figure out. just deep rest, beautiful music, and space to reconnect, release, and envision the week you want to create.
tonight at 8 pm sunnyside $20 includes hot tea and hang before… and as a little extra love: your ticker includes one free tlc class to enjoy at your leisure.

EEE!!! today's the day!!! 🥹🔥🙌❤️
tonight, i'm embarking on a spiritual musical journey with one of my favorite musicians, @bensollee, along with local legends dear suz @tourmamasuz & david @davidwaxmuseum for a 3-day songwriting retreat and my heart is already SOARING!!! ✨💞✨

here are pics of a most-magical moment from 4/12/2013!!

as the story goes:
Q: what is better than dancing to ben sollee singing "boys don't cry"? Answer: SINGING "chocolate jesus" WITH BEN SOLLEE! holy bananas! ... it was bittersweet to find that i was scheduled to headline the mcguffey portion of tom tom fest with @we_are_star_children on the same night that ben was coming to town. i needed sustanence before the event, so i headed to the mall for a slice. i was DELIGHTED to find this humble man busking before his show, which was the same time that we were to go on. i savored my pizza as i fed my soul with this fine musician playing nearby. this clearly led to dancing and then chatting. THEN ben asked what i'd like to sing with him!!! tom waits, of course. what a vocal warm-up and supreme treat! 😭

ben, suz & david: please prepare the soft tether to keep me from floating away!! 🎈

Buy the ticket as the mural says, and be sure to meet your heroes if given the opportunity!

Silas House has been one of my literary heroes since being introduced to his works in a book club 10 years ago. The way he so beautifully captures the joy and tragedy, the comedy and despair, and both the depravity and goodness of humanity never ceases to amaze me.

I enjoyed hearing him speak about and read excerpts from his new book, “The Tulip Poplars,” at the very special venue @theburlky and my beloved local library @psplib this week. I just might stay up all night tonight to read my copy of “The Tulip Poplars,” in one setting!

It’s hard to express how grateful I am to everyone who came to our sold out show at The Burl last night. It was truly a special evening because of the audience and the artists who stood on that stage with me to welcome in THE TULIP POPLARS. I love you all forever.

Special thanks to The Burl and Joseph Beth @josephbethlex for hosting us.

An unforgettable evening of poetry, music, and community🎤

Last Friday, October 2nd, the James Baker Hall Foundation hosted its first public fundraising event in Louisville, Ben Sollee & Friends, at The Broadway Theater. The evening was a tremendous success, and we are deeply grateful for the incredible participation, generosity, and support of everyone who joined us.

A heartfelt thank-you to Ben Sollee for his moving cello performance and to poets Gwen Akers, Kathleen Driskell, Marta Miranda-Straub, and Lance Newman for sharing their powerful words and perspectives. We also extend our gratitude to Gwen Akers for opening the evening and to Laura Shine for serving as our emcee. The evening was a beautiful reminder of the importance of poetry, art, and the voices that help us see the world more clearly.

As James Baker Hall Foundation Managing Director Lawrence Pemble reflected, “We need poets because they are the only ones we can absolutely trust to tell the truth.”

The evening also featured a special exhibit of photographs of Wendell Berry taken by James Baker Hall, celebrating the remarkable friendship and creative connection between the two longtime friends.

Thank you to everyone who helped bring this event to life and to all who came to share in this special evening!

Thank you to our sponsors! ❤️
