Some award-winning editor, a guy who likes to talk more than write, yet should be writing more. Goth Jr. aesthetic.

“August” by Jonathan Lees is eerie, provocative, and unapologetically gay. This Ramble Reads excerpt feels like horror and your average Saturday night at the club at the same time. Out now from Lethe Press. #TheRamble #RambleReads #queerfiction #gayhorror

(Catch and) Release Day: THE SACRAMENTS OF BLACKGUM LAKE Now Available It’s official: my novella, THE SACRAMENTS OF BLACKGUM LAKE is now available from Lethe Press. Abundant thanks Steve Berman for his enduring support, Inkspiral Design, and for all those (both literary allies and strangers) who read ARCs and blurbed Blackgum ahead of this weekend’s release—not to mention the generous, cover sentiments courtesy of Ramsey Campbell: “A pervasive sense of disquieting wrongness coalesces into hauntingly weird images that lead to a chilling conclusion you won’t soon forget.”

𝗟𝗘𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗝𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗖𝗘𝗟𝗘𝗕𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡! Longtime friends of Godless, Lethe Press, have an exciting double-header for us today. First up is Steve Berman’s latest Plüschow book, Plüschow and the Mollizzi. The second is an 18-story anthology called Daughters of Frankenstein: Lesbian Mad Scientists! They have been dropping the most unique and crazy shit on Godless for years, so be sure to pick a ton of Lethe Press books today! 𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗣 𝗟𝗘𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗦 https://godless.com/collections/lethe-press 𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗣 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗗𝗥𝗢𝗣 https://godless.com/collections/the-drop-all-new-shit 𝗣𝗹ü𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘇𝘇𝗶 𝗯𝘆 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻 Naples, 1896. Guglielmo Plüschow is a photographer of some reputation and considerable appetite, content among the sun-bronzed boys of Mergellina and the darkrooms of Via de' Mille. Then a desperate Englishman arrives with an impossible companion, a century-old doll that speaks, and a proposition he cannot refuse. Adrian Singleton needs a relic. A blood-stained handkerchief locked away in the rooms of a recently dead saint in Turin, said to cure his opium addiction and do something stranger still for his wooden friend. The man who arranged it is Frederick Rolfe, a fraud, fabulist, and thief. What follows is a journey north through the dining cars and pension parlors of Belle Époque Italy and into a Basilica haunted by boys who died badly in the shadow of a saint. A story of appetite and obsession from Lambda Literary Award-winner Steve Berman. 𝗗𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗶𝗻: 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝗯𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗱 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀! The women working to dangerous and/or questionable ends in the pages of Daughters of Frankenstein are unafraid of the patriarchy--indeed, as lesbian mad scientists, they prefer the company and comforts of their own gender. Androids? Pfeh, the gynoid is superior. Etheric dynamos have a more pleasing design, one that is vulvar, than Tesla coils. Eighteen imaginative, if not insane, women; eighteen stories told by some of the finest writers working in queer speculative fiction: Traci Castleberry, Sean Eads, Gemma Files, Amy Griswold, and Melissa Scott.

Fittingly, the Opera ghost has inspired grandiose movies and an award-winning musical. And now, an impressive anthology of horror and weird fiction, edited by Steve Berman. What has happened to the purloined body of Lon Chaney? Who is convinced that the Phantom is alive after the events of Paris? And contemporary haunting stories of youths drawn to the eerie music of an underground grotto or a pair of devious lovers trying to make it big on Broadway even if it takes a killing. Just the other day, my loyal familiar floated over to me and said, "You know, you should take a picture of me posing next to CRYPTOPOLIS & OTHER STORIES, your recent collection of 25 short stories praised by such luminaries as Philip Fracassi, Nick Mamatas, and John Shirley. People tend to like images of felines, or so I'm told, which is why I chose to manifest in this form in the first place. Why not take advantage of it while I still remain on this plane of existence? Hell, who knows? Maybe some schmuck will actually buy your dumb book. After all, anything is possible in this strange world filled with odd-shaped folks." Then he started aggressively licking his butt. Soon afterwards, I decided to heed his advice and snapped this photograph. https://tinyurl.com/2p3uvky2 (Did my loyal familiar mention that you can snatch up the Kindle edition of CRYPTOPOLIS & OTHER STORIES for only $6.66? What better way to celebrate All Hallows' Eve than to curl up with a furry familiar and a preternaturally evil book? What are you waiting for, my friends? Happy Halloween!!!) https://tinyurl.com/39ksxdta PRAISE FOR CRYPTOPOLIS & OTHER STORIES: "The stories in Cryptopolis feel like the bloody, star-filled lovechildren of Burroughs and Delany." --#PhilipFracassi, author of Boys in the Valley "Cryptopolis will take you to strange epiphanies." --#JohnShirley, author of The Feverish Stars "Guffey's tales resist genre gentrification; they move into your mind to turn it into a punk house squat!" --#NickMamatas, author of Move Under Ground and The Second Shooter "Though not for the faint of heart, this bizarre and over-the-top collection is sure to thrill devotees of weird fiction." --#PublishersWeekly "In Cryptopolis & Other Stories, Guffey's free-ranging intellect meshes wonderfully with his command of the language." --#JohnOakes, author of The Fast "Cryptopolis may end up being a gateway drug into Robert Guffey’s work [...].
