The Galway City Council Arts Office is pleased to nominate Bernadette Divilly to take part in Bealtaine's Artist Care Exchange Programme (ACE).

The Artists Care Exchange is a professional development programme that supports artists to engage creatively within care settings, fostering meaningful connections, shared learning, and creative experiences with older people. Through mentoring, peer support, and practical engagement, the programme explores the role of the arts in enhancing wellbeing, communication, and quality of life.

A socially engaged dance artist, Bernadette brings together her contemplative dance practice and extensive experience working with older people. Through ACE, she will explore how dance, movement, and creative exchange can foster wellbeing, meaningful connection, and communication within community care settings.

Bernadette's practice is rooted in cultural diversity and intergenerational engagement, recognising dance as a powerful form of communication that celebrates different experiences, perspectives, and stages of life.

Tá áthas ar Oifig Ealaíon Chomhairle Cathrach na Gaillimhe Bernadette Divilly a ainmniú chun páirt a ghlacadh i gclár Artist Care Exchange na Bealtaine.

Is clár forbartha gairmiúla é Artist Care Exchange a thacaíonn le healaíontóirí páirt chruthaitheach a ghlacadh i suíomhanna cúraim, ag cothú naisc fhiúntacha, foghlaim chomhroinnte, agus eispéiris chruthaitheacha le daoine scothaosta. Trí mheantóireacht, tacaíocht piaraí, agus rannpháirtíocht phraiticiúil, fiosrófar le linn an chláir an ról atá ag na healaíona maidir le folláine, cumarsáid agus caighdeán na beatha a fheabhsú.
Tabharfaidh Bernadette, ealaíontóir damhsa atá gníomhach go sóisialta, a cleachtas damhsa machnamhach agus an taithí fhairsing atá aici ar bheith ag obair le daoine scothaosta le chéile sa chlár.

Tá cleachtas Bernadette fréamhaithe san iléagsúlacht chultúir agus sa rannpháirtíocht ó ghlúin go glúin, trína n-aithnítear damhsa mar fhoirm chumhachtach cumarsáide a cheiliúrann eispéiris, peirspictíochtaí agus céimeanna éagsúla den saol.

The Summer rain fell on our third siúlóid sióchána, yesterday Sunday the 2nd of August. However, it didn't dampen the spirits of the ever increasing community of peace activists @steps4peace

We gathered, connected, embraced and deepened new and old friendships as we once again set off in solidarity along the prom.

People travelled and made the effort. One lady drove up from Cork on her own that morning to be apart of the peace movement. She wrote some words and channelled her pain at the steps in Blackrock.

It feels like the weather keeps trying to test us. However, the hardcore peace activists won't back down. We'll keep pushing and prioritising peace in our communities and further afield.

This month's peace walk was framed within the context of peace is not merely the absence of conflict but the absence of racism, homophobia, sexism and any other form of discrimination.

Michelle Ní Chlèirigh @michelle.ni.chleirigh once again opened and held a beautiful mindful meditation by the sea. This allowed the group to settle at the steps at Blackrock and drop into another level of awareness.

Our newly appointed Mayor, Helen Ogbu @iamhelenogbu spoke courageously and with an open heart to the narrative of racism in our world. She spoke about a need for more compassion, dignity and respect to humankind. A powerful message that unfortunately still needs to be told today.

This was followed by a gentle invitation to 'dance dates for peace' by the deeply attuned somatic psychotherapist Bernadette Divilly @bernadettedivilly here we dropped into awareness of the elements around us and deepened into a healing space from within. The brilliant and dynamic Sailhymn Ò Neart @sailhymn added his beautiful tones and catchy melodies to amplify our felt sense of the peace dance. Simply profound.

Jude Coughlan @judeglasmara also generously gifted her beautiful words in song and in Irish. Subtle and moving.

Thank you from our hearts to all the performers, walkers, observers, babies in buggies and barking dogs. A special thank you to Donna Keane and Michelle Ni Chlèirigh for their tireless efforts.

Peace is the only way.

Comhghairdeas to our brilliant and inspiring President Catherine Connolly for being awarded 'Freedom of the City'. Nobody deserves this honor more than Catherine.

Thank you Catherine for all that you do. Your continued advocacy and commitment for peace is most admirable.

Thank you for taking the time on Sunday to support our inaugural siúlóid síochána, peace walk @steps4peace in a personal capacity. It meant a lot to us to walk the prom and take 5,000collective Steps4Peace with our President, once again evidencing how Catherine always chooses to prioritise what's important and really matters.

We look forward to walking along side Catherine again at our monthly peace walks the first Sunday of each month.

Be apart of the peace movement @steps4peace
