The greatest joy I’ve found is cooking food for others. Nourishing someone and building community have become the cornerstone of my life. Behind the scenes, it hours and hours of work for a single service. Bringing gaps between local businesses and purveyors as often as I can. Championing other local chefs, butchers, barbers, bakers, cafes, florist, wine bars, servers, mixologists, fish mongers, graphic artist, bartenders and anyone wanting to serve has always been the ethos behind family meal. It takes a village to put these events together. Sometimes I can’t make certain events or collaborations happen, but that doesn’t mean I’m not in your corner cheering you on. It’s been a blessing, and I can’t wait to continue serving ya’ll. Truly, I love you.

Thanks @16bellablue for taking this picture of me, I feel cool af in this shit.

So, my luggage was a little heavier coming home from the Bay — sharing some of the books that came home with me. 🧳 The @826valencia books were actually from a trip in August.

Thank you to @filbookfestival for inviting me to speak on a panel (actually my first ever) and do a story time! Over 90 Filipino authors were there from the Philippines and the diaspora, and the energy was beyond compare. It was so amazing to be able to share my work, meet other Filipino authors, illustrators and creatives in person, and just celebrate the growing body of Filipino literature that has been published in recent years. Met friends old and new, and truly friends for life. ❤️

Had events at @blackbirdbooksf, @onwaverly, @asianartmuseum and a mixer at @lindentreereads and a visit with my new editor at @tenspeedyoungreaders/@tenspeedpress. A tour of @chroniclebooks/@chroniclekidsbooks! Met the luminous librarian and illustrator @jadehowdy at @libraryofyoungauthors.

Also so many wonderful school visits!

More recap reels to come in the next few days. Happy weekend, everyone. 🍁🍂 Filipino picture books When Lola Visits and Maribel’s Year at Kasama Festival at Asian Art Museum in SF.

Bernal Cutlery in the Mission specializes in knives and all things food-related—but they also keep the city’s ribbon-cutting scissors sharp.

Founded in 2005 by Josh Donald and Kelly Kozak, Bernal Cutlery is a San Francisco Legacy Business with an incredible collection of San Francisco-made knives spanning the city’s history. Josh also knows just about everything there is to know about San Francisco’s knife-making industry.

And a tip I learned during my visit: you should have your knives sharpened every six months to a year. If, like me, you’ve somehow gone much longer—or maybe never sharpened them at all—take them to Bernal Cutlery for their sharpening services.

A little about my journey to @ochamode 🍵
Growing up in Shizuoka, Japan, ocha was always part of my everyday life. After years away from my hometown, I found myself returning to the rituals I grew up with and rediscovering what ocha meant to me.

That journey eventually became ochamode🌱

Now based in the San Francisco Bay Area, I hope to share the ocha lifestyle with you, one cup at a time 🍵

We’ll be at @kqed Edible Atlas tomorrow✨ @kqedfood

A celebration of the Bay Area’s diverse cultures and stories through food 🌎

We’re excited to share a taste of Shizuoka, Japan, and our ocha culture with you 🍵💚
