Baby steps… but this one feels so good!!

We got 3 quails & their coop 1.5 years ago. Several rounds of hatchings & lots of learning later… 🥚💕🤗

We spent 10hrs…
Setting up temporary accommodations
Emptying poopy straw into the tumbler compost.
Rinsing, soaping, scrubbing, disinfecting coop & accessories
Alterations to coop & platform
Setting it all back up
… Also, chasing the quails that escaped their temporary accommodations 🤣 FYI: Quails can indeed squeeze thru doggy ex pens!!

Still learning about keeping quail. Thought feed was all about protein, protein, & protein! 🐥🐥🐥

Had them on #1 @ 25%. Found #2 @ 26% - 1% more, $10 cheaper! Switched in Dec so didn’t notice anything until egg production didn’t come along with the longer days. Started mixing in #1 again & eggs came within days!!

Same hatch - Now vs Oct!!
Triple speed zoomies 🤣

Mine are all adults now & I’m fighting against every urge to hatch more, more - I want chicks!! 🐣🐣🐣

But I’ll never get tired of the quiet murmurs punctuated by the odd crow. Curious bobbing. Fluffing & burrowing in the straw & sand.

The dogs are over our return, laundry is done, & sand has been shaken from shoes. There are still so many adventures, memories, & pics (1000s of pics 🤦🏻‍♀️) to unpack!!

More posts are coming… but first…

The Win ❤️ My greenhouse is my happy place!! So on our recent trip I made sure to come home with a beautiful Moroccan lamp 🌟 We hung it - My heart smiled.

The Loss 😱 I turned to my potting bench & started shuffling pots, banging my trowel around, sprinkling seeds. For days, I’d been wondering why these pests were gathering around me every time I was in my greenhouse… & here they came again! There were several so I just sat down & watched them rather than be in their way & get stung.

Then I saw it… one after another they ducked under the table & were gone 🐝🐝🐝

I guess that’s balance 🤣
