A rainy day in our bungalow in the countryside 🤎

It’s literally poured buckets here today and hasn’t stopped since I woke up 🙈 had a lovely bit of pampering this morning with my nails and microneedling done and spent the rest of the day adding some autumn bits to the house. I didn’t want to go too far as we’ll be decorating for Christmas soon 🙊

One of the biggest transformations has been my kitchen. This is my favourite room in the whole house as I had a very specific vision and with the help of our incredible builder, my dad and a very patient courier company we managed to bring it to life!

It flows so well into the lounge and has a warm Mediterranean feel with locally made oak cabinet doors, zellige tiles, terracotta lighting and microcement on the floor and walls.

A wonderful project to create with our clients, extending the warmth and contemporary style of their home into the garden.
Burnished tones echo the interior palette, while sweeping curves bring a softer, more organic feel to this urban setting. Exploring different materials and combining textures gave the design its own distinctive character.
Entertaining was central to the brief, with a generous dining area and outdoor kitchen for gathering with friends and family, alongside a separate, more intimate seating space around the firepit.
Beautiful Amelanchier trees bring height and seasonal interest, while generous Phillyrea domes anchor the planting. Ornamental grasses add softness and movement, woven through with purples and deep pinks from perennial and seasonal planting.
A garden for gathering, unwinding and feeling at home.
A huge congratulations to Formosa Landscapes for such a brilliantly executed build.
Their exceptional attention to detail and care throughout created a relationship of trust and confidence with both client and designer. A pleasure to work together.

SHOWER ROOM ESCAPE / Designed for two teenage girls who needed plenty of storage, but also somewhere that felt warm, cosy and cocooning.

We brought together earthy clay tiles from Bert & May for walk in shower, beautiful Studio Ore tapware in unlacquered brass and natural stone flooring from @capietra. Paint by @atelier.ellis

And as we couldn’t find the vanity room we were looking for, we had one bespokely made for us by @salacia.gb. The wall hung cabinet’s design specified by us was beautifully crafted with minimal panelling, plenty of clever storage, undermount basins and a marble worktop.

A lovely mix of natural materials, texture and warmth, with all the practical bits taken care of too.

A scrumptious bath - adore this bathroom, from sensational patterned tiles with alternating plain border; to the rich oranges and blues, nothing about this room feels sterile or clinical. A room layered with interest and the perfect spot to unwind, especially now the days and nights are starting to get cooler.

All the children wanted a bath rather than a shower last night and I realised what a comfort a bath is, summer was so busy that showers became the norm at the end of long dusty days outside but nothing beats a deep soak and playing with your siblings in the bubbles!

The Family Bathroom - the brief was to create a classic and chic space with a hint of playfulness. We loved designing this bathroom with duck egg blue tiles and exploring different patterns and shapes. With limewash walls and bamboo blinds this space will be full of warmth and movement.

More updates on this space coming soon…

Zellige tiles. The tiles that give contractors the utter fear. The constant phone calls saying “are you sure you want to work with these” “does the client know they’re all different sizes” - To us that’s what makes them so unique. Yes they’re a pain to lay, yes they have slight imperfections, but how beautiful they are.

A vanity we designed and built bespoke for this en-suite, sitting serenely. The antique mirror is one of my favourite finds that I painstakingly restored to its original beauty

A new BERTS cabin in the making.

A glimpse behind the scenes as our latest cabin begins to take shape in the workshop, soon to find its home nestled amongst the trees in the Oxfordshire countryside.

From the first stages of construction to the careful consideration of every material, junction and finish, each BERTS cabin is thoughtfully crafted off-site, bringing together precision, craftsmanship and a deep respect for the natural environment.

This cabin also marks an exciting evolution in our material palette. For the first time, we're introducing a beautifully earthy, moss-green lime-based plaster to the bathroom, offering a softer, quieter alternative to our signature tiled interiors.

Alongside this, reclaimed terracotta tiles from @bertandmay bring warmth, texture and a previous life into the space.

Working with reclaimed materials in a factory setting isn't always the easiest route, but it's one we're committed to. A real labour of love, made possible by our incredibly dedicated team of makers in Cornwall.

We're also introducing @wearepaperstone across our new cabin kitchens. Made from recycled paper and resin, this innovative surface brings together durability, warmth and a beautifully understated finish.

Another step towards a more considered, lower-impact material palette.

This cabin marks the beginning of an exciting new collaboration and will form part of a wider, carefully considered offering that we look forward to sharing in time.

A slow-grown vision, where each step is taken with curiosity, care and integrity. An approach that feels very much aligned with our own.

For now, a few moments from the making.
