Let’s welcome speaker number 1! 💫 Jeremy Vinson designs bespoke typefaces in close collaboration with brands and agencies – custom type that gives a brand its own voice and distinction. He also develops retail typefaces. Until 2020, based in Hong Kong, his work was shaped by over twenty years of building brands across Asia, including with Brand Union and Tandem Design. He began his career in London at Butler Cornfield Dedman before relocating to Asia, giving him a practitioner’s understanding of how type functions within brand systems and across cultures. Now based in the UK, he brings specialist typographic craft informed by real-world brand experience. Jeremy trained in typeface design at the Type@Cooper Extended Program in New York and twice graduated the Expert Class in Type Design at the Plantin Institute of Typography, Antwerp – where he was a key contributor to Melting Metal, a publication exploring the development of typeface revivals. Verso is Jeremy Vinson’s exploration of how left-handed broad-nib lettering translates to contemporary type design. Verso’s warm organic forms forms embrace Humanist design principles; classical proportions, traditional forms and an aversion to geometry — the design contains very little straight lines, and little symmetry, which keeps it engaging at large sizes and helps it to be very readable in small text settings. — Jeremy is a typeface designer and brand designer currently based in United Kingdom, he lived and workedin Hong Kong for over two decades. He was Design Partner at Tandem Design, which he co-founded, was a Design Director at Enterprise IG. He studied Typographic Design at London College of Printing (UAL), holds a MBA from University of Leicester, is a graduate of Expert class Type design, Plantin Instutute of Typography, Antwerp during which Jeremy was a key memeber of the team that authoured ‘Melting Metal’ a booklet about developing typecraft for typeface revivals, recently he was awared a Postgradute Certficate in Typeface Design from the Type@Cooper Extended Program, New York. He now focuses on creating bespoke type for brands.
