So happy to be able to share some more moments from our shoot in France a few months ago, a riverboat tour down the Seine from Normandy to Paris for @travelandleisure. With the support of the wonderful crew at @taucktravel we we had essentially unrestricted access to the ship and excursions during the voyage, and I’m incredibly proud of the images we were able to capture along the way. You can watch the full episode on @youTube and @netflix!

Earlier this summer, a mere week prior to Paris hitting an insane heat wave of 44 degrees Celsius (111 Fahrenheit for those playing at home), we had the incredible opportunity to film a riverboat tour down the Seine from Normandy to Paris for @travelandleisure. With the support of the wonderful crew at @taucktravel we we had essentially unrestricted access to the ship and excursions during the voyage, and I’m incredibly proud of the images we were able to capture along the way. Saving the world with our Gipsy Danger figure from @infinitystudiocn. Standing at 12.6 in (32cm) this model features over 120 points of articulation including multiple hand and weapon configurations to take on any Kaiju threat along with built-in LEDs and a motorized rotating core. Gipsy is the 3rd figure in the line from @gdtreal’s award winning @pacificrimmovie and was preceded by Cherno Alpha and Crimson Typhoon collectibles which are already fighting to close The Breach. Reinforcements are on the way with the 4th addition to the set, the upcoming Striker Eureka, available for pre-order now.

This promo was captured exclusively with our new @pixboomtech Spark at 1,000fps in full 4K resolution with our newly rehoused Canon FD lenses from our friends at @illuvision.co . Smoke effects courtesy of our @pmi_gear Smoke Genie and high speed flicker free lighting from our @litepanels Geminis and @asteraofficial Titans. Quick moves courtesy of our @kesslercrane Cineslider and good old fashioned elbow grease. A huge thanks to all our partners whose incredible gear made this shoot possible!

The opposite of traveling light… landing on set with a full @motorizedprecision Colossus robot kit for a recent shoot for our friends at @artandcommerce. Most of instagram is a highlight reel, but it’s always fun to peek behind the scenes and see what goes into a big production. Believe it or not, this is the most compact this kit has ever been, as we’ve been taking the time to condense and optimize all the individual components to make setting up as fast and efficient as possible. Now if only we had an inside track on a teleporter…

Had a blast remote operating our @freeflysystems MōVi Pro for DP @robby_sabi on several awesome grip rigs courtesy of @ragtag.grip including a Mitchell adapted ice skating speedrail dolly and an overhead cable cam pipe rig for the ‘NHL - Puck Rush’ for @nhl & @nexplayground.

Some of the edits go by quick so let me know if you want a better look at any of the rigs and we can try and hunt down some longer dailies and do some full length splitscreens! (Also shoutout to our @backpack_rig #StayPuffed kit for keeping us powered up without a battery swap)

Don’t forget to shut your blinds! When you mount a light to the robot arm instead of the camera, that’s when the real craziness begins. Some fun BTS of a shot from our @strangerthingstv miniature shoot. All of Season 5 is out on Netflix now!

12 years ago… we took a chance on a small drone company out of Washington State and threw $15k we didn’t have at pre-ordering the promise of a demo of a rollerskating camera operator holding onto a taxi cab window.

The @freeflysystems MōVi M10 (the 10 denoting it’s dubious 10lb advertised payload capacity) was the first time the video world reckoned with a handheld gimbal device that could maintain its horizon and remotely reposition its perspective while held by an operator (the tech had been originally pioneered as a way of stabilizing and operating the camera when mounted to a drone). Our little kit (including a @paralinx arrow+ transmitter/receiver, @smallhd DP4 and AC7 monitors, and @redrockmicro follow focus which are all discontinued at this point) was assembled from reading hundreds of pages of camera forums and discussing gear with everyone and anyone willing to listen.

It also marked a major career pivot for me personally, as I formally hung up my AD hat (something that I’ve been known to wax poetic about now and again while watching tensions rise and the schedule deteriorate) as I moved to camera department full time as a specialty operator and DP before snaking my way back into the director’s chair once again.

A huge shoutout to my forever remote/wheels operator @erin.trout for saving my ass time and time again and doing so in spite of client often trying to steal her monitor from her cart while she’s actively trying to operate off of it. The same goes to all the incredible DPs and ACs we’ve gotten the chance to work with over the last dozen laps around the sun, and hope to see you all on set again soon.
