Something new…🎁

There is something about seeing a garment leave the familiar confines of the studio and find its way onto another body, into another space, amongst a gathering of people who each bring their own visions and bare their own stories.
At Afrikan Freedom Station, Knot A Loose End stepped into the light. Our newest pieces in collaboration with those from previous collections, were worn, layered and reimagined. Each silhouette entered into conversation with the next. Textures met, proportions shifted, and garments found new expressions beyond how we initially envisioned them.
Because a collection is never quite finished at the point of creation. There is the making, the unmaking, the styling, the wearing. The hands that craft, the bodies that carry and the eyes that act as voyeurs, participators and occasionally critics.
Through this gathering of emerging local talent, we were reminded that fashion is not a solitary practice. It is a collective imagination, where different disciplines, visions and lived experiences come together to make something greater than the sum of their individual parts.
And perhaps that is what it means to make something new. Not to discard what came before, but to take what we have inherited, pull at its threads and discover what else we might make together.
Something new. Old threads, new hands, and a story still unfolding.

Something old…🧶

Every now and then, the present requires us to peer into the past. Fiddle around with your moms wedding dress, excavate your late grandfather's sunday best or adorn yourself in your grannies pearls (which as a child you thought were tacky, ghastly and relics of the ‘olden days’).
What we find often is that when we wear what we remember, more than just our sense of style becomes illuminated. Instead we are better equipped and scaffolding our gratitude for current trends and offering up a living body of archival narration.
Before the finished garment, there was the first stitch. The imperfect prototype. The silhouette that taught us what to reconsider, what to release and what was worth carrying forward.
These are the garments that raised SimoneDragonfly. Our growing pains, our building blocks, our lessons sewn into cloth. Not every piece was made to sell, but just like the something old, everything was intentionally crafted to stay.
Brought out of the archives and into the light at Afrikan Freedom Station, these old stories found new bodies, new movements and new meaning. A gathering of emerging local talent, reminding us that no creative practice grows in isolation, and no future is built without the hands that crafted before.
Because sometimes, to understand what we are becoming, we must first honour what brought us here.
Something old. A little of what we were, carried into all that we may become.

a little life update from the perspective of an artist, co-founder and a girl with big dreams. 🎨

2026 has been about being more intentional, taking up space, putting myself out there, learning to embrace rejection and trusting myself enough to pursue the life I envision. Still figuring things out, still learning, still building. But I’m proud of how far I’ve come and excited about everything I’m working towards.

A reminder to myself that the life I dream of is something I have to actively create. We keep going. 🤎

WINTER WHIMSY ❄️

And just like that, Winter Whimsy has come to a close.

What began as an exhibition became a space for art, sound, movement, conversation and connection, and we’re incredibly grateful to every artist, collaborator, performer and person who stepped into the space and experienced it with us.

From the artworks on the walls to our first sonic performance and dance intervention with Lynn Daphne Rudolph, this exhibition gave us a lot to reflect on, learn from and carry forward.

For those who missed the exhibition, or for those who found a work that stayed with you, the Winter Whimsy catalogue is still available.

If you’re interested in any of the works from the exhibition, send us a DM or leave a comment below and we’ll happily share the full catalogue with you.

Thank you for being part of Winter Whimsy.

One exhibition closes, and we’re already preparing for what comes next.

See you at the next one.

Winter Whimsy

A little glimpse into the magic that was Winter Whimsy
From the dreamlike works of Bethany Leaman and Thabang Lehobye, to a room filled with the most beautiful people, conversations and connections, and of course, the incredible Lynn Daphne Rudolph, who transformed the space through an unforgettable sonic performance.

Art, sound, people and a little bit of wonder, exactly what we imagined.

Winter Whimsy, you were something special.

We all need a little whimsy in our lives.🌟

A moment to pause, to breathe, and to be transported somewhere beyond the weight of everyday life.

Art has always been one of the healthiest forms of escapism, not because it helps us avoid reality, but because it helps us see it differently. It challenges us, comforts us, and reminds us that beauty, hope, and imagination still exist.

In a world where the headlines are often filled with doom and gloom, Winter Whimsy offers something else: wonder. A space to slow down, reconnect, and experience contemporary art that invites you to feel, reflect, and dream.

If you haven’t visited yet, there’s still time. Come experience Winter Whimsy while it’s still on view at Sumthing Sumthing. I promise you’ll leave with something more than you came with. ✨
