On the 1st January 2025, I fully ruptured my ACL.

I’m a movement and sports loving human. Yoga teacher, wannabe surfer, tennis player, hiker and lover of walking my dogs.

To only be presented with surgery as my only option by multiple professionals to heal my ACL didn’t seem right. In fact some of those sessions left me in tears at how final and closed they seemed on the matter.

I searched for natural healing options. I found an incredible physio in Japan and then also in my home country of Australia, Dr Keiran Richardson @global_specialist_physio .

Since February I have been on a rehab training programme with this team and I threw my full commitment at it. My original rehab gym @nambourjetts was caught in the early QLD floods and closed down a few months back , so I ended up driving a long way to rehab for a while. Now I am totally blessed that a fabulous new gym with strength, yoga and more @create_fitnesscollective has opened just a few mins from my home. This will make my final 6 months of rehab much easier!!!

I’ve also had lots of encouragement from @aclphysio.dave who sustained the same injury at a similar time.

I’m super grateful for the wonders of comfrey from @botanico_au and castor oil for the pain.
I picked up a tennis racket for the first time in 7 months last week. That was a huge milestone.

All this to say… for anyone out there who injures their ACL you don’t need to rush surgery, you can heal without it.

Believe in yourself and surround yourself with people who
believe in you too.

I set some intentions around getting stronger this year, just didn’t realise it would be focused on 9 months of healing a ruptured ACL. I’ll still say the skiing was worth it!!!

For any friends or friends of friends who need to hear this… if you rupture your ACL there are non surgical routes to healing you can try before surgery.

I have found a brilliant team in Western Australia helping me in a staged 6-9 month programme.

I’m only at the start and going to give everything I got. Daily gym sessions with specific exercises focused on strengthening all the muscles surrounding my knee. I’m also in a knee brace for a while so my leg doesn’t go to full extension yet, allowing healing to
take place.

No tennis or surfing for a good 9-12 months.

If you get this kind of injury and you want to know more about non surgical research and training programmes check out the work of @global_specialist_physio. They are experts in the field of non surgical healing of the ACL, are positive, encouraging and build trust. If you want someone on your team that really advocates for you and is positive all the way, chat to these guys! So grateful.

There is also another awesome Insta account which is useful for rehab exercises and positive inspiration @aclphysio.dave.

I also have a super supportive family who encourages me to get up every morning and go do the work, and an awesome team at work who are quite simply the bees knees! @thenutrition_academy @cyndiomeara @tasha7711

And if anyone wants to share inspiring stories of knee rehab I’d love to hear them.

At 6 weeks post injury I can squat with stability, do RDLs, sit to stand on a single leg, quad stretch without pain, cycle, walk around in my brace, and lots more.

So grateful for all the beautiful positive folk around me. This post is really about saying thanks and to share what amazing work folks out there are doing.
