Sooo I'm about a month late but hey I graduated!!

It was an amazing and fun journey; I learned so much more than I thought I could and I'm actually confident in the art I make now. Thank you to all the people I tagged (and even more than I couldn't) for being great teachers, classmates, and friends that helped me throughout college! I wish you all the best :)

this is why we do it when we do it. dallas art fair weekend, arts month. to put the freshest voices on a platform they deserve to be on. all these conversations happening across the city, the working artists, the students, the ones cutting their teeth, finding their footing, are rarely in the room. whether it’s their first show while finishing an undergrad or they’re deep into doctoral and post-graduate work, they’re represented here.

the show is still up. come see it. open hours are thursdays 6–9pm, or dm us to schedule an appointment.

Thinking a lot about our show ‘Garden Panty’ from last October and wanted to share more views of the work and images from our killer opening reception.

Love you all immensely.

We are excited to announce a solo performance piece ‘Christening’ by Bianca Bisej will take place during the opening reception for our upcoming 10th Anniversary show! The performance will begin at 8:30pm.

From the artist:

“With this performance I will be examining these feelings of self-betrayal and safety through obscurity by covering myself in layer after layer of t-shirt, obscuring my form that I’ve worked so hard to achieve in an attempt to show the audience what so many in the trans community go through as an event akin to christening our new bodies in shame and fear.

The performance itself will be a restrictive experience. Actually making myself more visible to the audience through the layering of shirts, restricting my movement and embarrassing myself, exemplifying the “double-edged” nature of concealing oneself. You may be safe from people on the outside, but from my own experience, you also feel inauthentic. The piece shows the audience the harmful nature of not being true to yourself and the toll that the slow build up of insecure emotions takes on your mental state.”

Full statement from the artist available on our website. The Eclectika is located at 711 N Britain Rd Irving TX.

Coming up in December, ‘Get Bit’ featuring works by Talbot Kenney, Noah Steely, Kenni Pham, and Bianca Bisej. The opening reception for 'Get Bit' will be held on Saturday December 13th from 6-10pm. The Eclectika is located at 711 N. Britain Rd, Irving, TX 75061.

About the show:

This exhibition invites you to Get Bit and experience the artificial hive mind of social media. We explore the impact of contemporary technologies and algorithms on the traditional family unit and the domestic space having their perceptions contrived and contorted based on what they consume.
