June & July

Two months of family, history, and casually meeting the President—June and July were a lesson in finding joy even as the winds of change began to blow.

June and July were a whirlwind of celebration, reflection, and foreshadowing.

In June, I pulled off a surprise for my Pop’s 65th birthday. Watching his face light up reminded me of how grounding family can be. Moments like that hit differently now, especially with my grandmother’s absence.

Then did a pit stop in ATL to support TransTech CAB member, Speaking 4 Profit University and got to spend time with my cousin.

Later that month, I attended the grand opening of the @stonewallvisctr . It was a moment of history, but also bittersweet—my grandmother was supposed to be my +1, and her absence was felt deeply. Amid all of that, I somehow casually met the 46th President of the United States. Thanks to Diana Rodriguez @prideliveofficial for thinking of me. Yep, just me and Joe, shaking hands like it was no big deal.

By the time I left the city, though, I could feel it in my bones—everything was about to change. And oh, did it.

July continued the theme of community. I attended the TKPhi Conclave, where my pham showed up and showed out. The relationships I’ve built there continue to be a source of strength, grounding, and growth.

These two months were about honoring the past, celebrating the present, and quietly bracing for what was to come. Change was in the air, but so was possibility.

August: A Month of Celebration, Connection, and Unease

Milestones, mystery flowers, and bracing for what’s to come.

August, my birthday month, was a rollercoaster of emotions—my first without my grandmother, and her absence was deeply felt. For my birthday, I asked for something simple: a physical card. While I’m grateful for the thoughtful gifts I received, nothing compares to the sentiment of a handwritten note. And to whoever sent me those beautiful flowers anonymously… thank you. Your kindness was a bright spot during a tender time.

This month also marked a milestone as I participated in a historic panel at the Saving Ourselves Symposium, @southernaidscoalition featuring five Black trans men—a first for the event. Being part of that groundbreaking moment felt powerful and restorative. At the same time, I organized and executed a @transtechsocial x JPMC event in Atlanta, focusing on breaking into tech within the firm. Connecting with local leaders in ATL was a reminder of how impactful our community work can be.

August also brought recognition: I was honored with the 2024 Pioneer of Technology Award at the @thetranslifeawards. The room was filled with people who’ve been with me through my highest highs and lowest lows, and having them there to celebrate this moment meant everything. Even more meaningful was reconnecting with my nephew, Jasper—a relationship that continues to inspire me.

Despite the joy and milestones, there was an undercurrent of unease I couldn’t shake. It felt like a storm was brewing, and September didn’t waste any time showing me what was next.

TENz was on the scene “with the gurls in the back of the room” at The House of Juicy Couture: The GOAT Ball on Saturday in Queens, New York.

I was inspired to create Y2K stylized portraits inspired by the house’s namesake. 25 Posters featuring the scene’s Legends, Statements, and Stars can be found popping up around New York City with 64 posters available on tenzmag.com
