God gave you the vision for a reason. Recessions, setbacks, and tough times are just part of the testing ground. Keep showing up, put in the work, and thank God at every single step - Apmeca 🌴🌊🏄🏾‍♂️

Y’all what a couple of whirlwind weekends that I got to share with so many friends and creatives! Had a day of @televersefest 📺 shared with @farrahfazal and @jadejenisedixon and got to support some of my favorite shows @widowsbay @paradiseonhulu and people @hanelleculpepper and cheer loudly 🗣️🤞🏽❤️‍🔥for those 🏆Emmy nominations! Visited the @arraynow campus for their super fantastic & fulfilling day of play filled with Uno, spades, dominoes, Klondike bars (thanks Mercedes), food, friends and of course - Fun🎉! And also for a screening of the film “August 28th - A Day in the Life of a People” that @ava created for the Smithsonian (I saw it there a few years ago). 🎬So powerful, as was the inspiring, thoughtful and profound talk back shared with so many including my friends @bettina.fisher11 @carolannshine . Got to give a birthday shout and dance the night away to MJ compliments of birthday boy and DJ @tracygrant5439 @trayboogie_theexperience - (happy happy🎂)stopped by an awesome Creators conference 🎭 and got to celebrate a group of hot shot/extraordinary women filmmakers at one of my favorite film-festivals 🎟️📽️📸and events sponsored by @bhercdotorg and @sandraeversmanly “Sisters Doin’ it for themselves” which never disappoints - screened my very first film “Hope” there many moons ago and my recent film @supermandoesntstealfilm not too long ago - was thrilled to see and support some kick*ss friends/filmmakers including @keenastar @deleceonlife @jaedirects @tiffystunts @anisefuller and so many others. Big bonus we all got gifted knowledge and a reminder of purpose with an inspirational talk given by the one and only incomparable @gpbmadeit ! Whew chile -I am exhausted just writing all that! 😅🎊🎉🫠 but so grateful to be able to connect, support, celebrate and share in community with other creatives and friends. It is so needed right now. And I truly take nothing for granted. 🙏🏽🖤🫶🏽#grateful grateful #fun #friends #play #array 🎥📻

Love & Basketball and Woman King badass director Gina Prince Bythewood @gpbmadeit gives words of inspiration on forging a path for Black women's self-determination in film against racist, sexist misogynoirist obstacles. Every rejection is a redirection. @bhercdotorg

🎬✨ 24 SHORT FILMS. ONE ROOM FULL OF BLACK WOMEN’S STORIES. AND I STAYED FOR EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. ✨🎬

Thanks to Chef Muriel Shabazz, I had the opportunity to attend BHERC’s 33rd Annual Sistas Are Doin’ It For Themselves Short Film Showcase, and I’m so glad I stayed and watched all 24 shorts.

There is something powerful about sitting in a space where Black women are not just the characters in the story — we are the writers, directors, producers, visionaries and storytellers shaping the narrative.
Some films made me laugh. Some made me think. Some made me uncomfortable. Some stayed with me long after the credits rolled. But collectively, they reminded me why it is so important that we show up for independent filmmakers and support Black women creating art.

And then… Gina Prince-Bythewood🔥
Hearing the woman behind Love & Basketball, The Woman King and so many powerful stories speak directly to emerging filmmakers was a moment. Her words were motivating, encouraging and a reminder that there is room for new voices, new visions and new ways of telling our stories.

And speaking of Gina…
I’m already looking forward to supporting her next film, Children of Blood and Bone, coming to theaters January 15, 2027. 🎥✨ It is based on Tomi Adeyemi’s fantasy world of Orïsha. Casting includes Thuso Mbedu, Damson Idris, Amandla Stenberg, Cynthia Erivo, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Regina King, Idris Elba and Viola Davis.

Put it on your calendar now because our support matters.
Support the shorts.
Support the indie films.
Support the film festivals.
Support emerging directors.
Support Black women behind the camera.

And when our stories make it to the BIG screen — BUY THE TICKET. 🎟️
Because when we show up for our storytellers, we make it possible for the next generation to tell theirs.

👏🏾 Congratulations to BHERC for continuing to create a platform where Black filmmakers can be seen, celebrated and poured into.

Sistas ARE doin’ it for themselves… and I’m here for every frame. 🎬🖤
