Saucony Run Shoreditch Half Marathon — 1:37:58 🏃‍♂️

The very first Shoreditch Half Marathon — and pretty much on my doorstep.

I knew how I wanted to run this one.

Let the race come to me.

I settled into my own rhythm around the 4:40s and just kept running. No forcing it. No chasing the clock.

I barely saw any of the kilometre or mile markers. I was just running my own race, staying in my rhythm and letting it unfold.

Around 6K, I spotted the 1:40 pacers. They looked about three or four minutes ahead of me. I knew I had some ground to make up, but I didn’t chase them.

Then I saw the 10K marker and glanced down at my watch.

Around 46:38.

I knew I was moving well, but I still felt controlled.

And slowly, the pacers started coming back to me.

By around 10–11K, I’d reeled them in.

And then I went past.

That was a great feeling — knowing I’d stayed patient, trusted my own pace and brought them back without forcing it.

From there, I just kept it controlled and consistent. The support around the course was brilliant — hearing my name shouted from the crowd, seeing Valentine, Lenny and Nick out there, and having familiar faces along the way made it feel really special.

Then suddenly I was back in Shoreditch Park.

1:37:58.

And that felt significant.

After Northampton, which felt like a long, tough half, this one felt fast. The course was quick, the weather was beautiful, and the whole thing just flowed.

A gel before the start, another just after 10K, skipped the first couple of water stations, then grabbed a little water later on and carried on.

Really, really pleased with how I ran it.

Patient. Controlled. Consistent.

And when the race came to me, I was ready.

Huge congratulations to Mustapha on a brilliant run, Scott on his first ever half marathon and first sub-2, and to Jerry, Moira, Johnny and everyone else who took part today.

And a massive thank you to all the marshals and volunteers who made the very first Shoreditch Half Marathon such a brilliant event.

Great course. Great atmosphere. Beautiful day.

Shoreditch, you were brilliant.

See you next time. 🏃‍♂️🔥

Before the training, there’s preparation.
Application. Intention. Execution.
