I have shorter hair and wear glasses now, so updated headshots felt overdue. Called up my dear friend @billwadman and had a lovely time as always! Bill’s a man of many talents (photographer, filmmaker, musician, etc.) whom I’ve had the pleasure of knowing for over a decade now. I especially enjoy our deep philosophical chats over lunch at Little Purity in Bk.

Every shoot becomes a little timestamp, a reminder of a specific moment that will never exist in quite the same way again.

And I think that’s one of my favorite things about being photographed. It preserves a feeling, a season, a story.

Not every photoshoot feels this way, of course, but this was definitely one of them ❣️

Not counting flat tire selfies, I think this is somehow the first picture of me with my bike, taken by @billwadman in December following sandwiches on the Lower East Side. I purchased it almost ten years ago from a guy who was moving to Israel with his girlfriend, and who gave me a more than fair price given both the quality and quantity of its various bells and whistles. As Billy Madison once said, “Man, I’m glad I called that guy.”

For the first few years of owning it, I would mostly just take my bike out when the weather was nice. A leisurely treat, as it were.
.
Then, with the pandemic, I quickly became a determined and quite frankly stubborn everyday rider, first for the sake of safety, and later because I found myself feeling sad and irritable when I missed more than a day or two. It had become a cherished daily practice. Rain or shine. Hurricanes and heat waves. I couldn’t begin to guess how many miles I’ve put on it, but it’s definitely over 10,000 at this point.

Riding has been exercise, therapy, and meditation. It’s allowed me to see large swaths of the city that I never would have visited otherwise, and connected it all in my mind in ways that the subway, helpful as it may be, can never really achieve. In terms of subway fares avoided, it’s probably paid for itself 25 times over. It’s made me think differently about the weather and the seasons, and my tolerance of and level of comfort within all of their variations.

And whether life has been good or bad, being on my bike has only improved it. Even the flat tires have helped in their own way, for their lessons in patience and acceptance, and to try and make friends with the unexpected and inconvenient.
.
Getting a bike has been, unexpectedly, one of the most meaningful and consequential decisions of my adult life, given me new layers of freedom and confidence in how I navigate New York, and is also just really fun.

Vulnerability isn’t weakness.
 It’s part of how I train.

“Emotional Fitness” isn’t just a book or a mindset - it’s my training method.

It’s how I coach clients to build strength without shame, consistency without punishment, and resilience without suppressing emotions.

Most of us were taught to hide the parts of ourselves that feel anxious, overwhelmed, or unsure - especially men.
 We were told to be tougher. Quieter. Less emotional.

But here’s the foundation of “Emotional Fitness:”

✨ Suppressing your pain doesn’t make you strong.
 Training through awareness does.

In my method, vulnerability is not a liability - it’s a tool.
 It’s how you: • stop fighting your body • understand emotional triggers that derail workouts • build consistency that actually lasts • strengthen the mind and body together

Real strength is being able to say: • “I’m not okay today.” • “I need support.” • “I’m still showing up - just differently.”

That’s “Emotional Fitness.”

You are allowed to have days where you’re not fine. You are allowed to train with compassion. You are allowed to grow without self-criticism.

This work begins with self-love and continues every time you choose awareness over avoidance.

The goal of “Emotional Fitness” is to heal yourself through the power of exercise. To help you achieve a feeling of “wholeness,” both emotionally and physically, in becoming your authentic self!

So while some form of perfection may be a theme - toss it away. Practice patience and self-love, remember that you’re empowered and that you have choices; these are just some of the foundations of your proud journey ahead…

Start by acknowledging that you are right where you need to be. Then, trust that your path is and will be beautiful...

I’m here for you.
