NEW WAVE, 2015 by BILLY BURZY - Overlooking any concept of realism, the goal of “New Wave” is to create movement of one’s eye through out the painting using colour and composition alone. Bold colours in unexpected spaces allow a continuous flowing sensation, leaving only the white focal points for the eye to rest. This piece invokes chaos and calmness simultaneously. Burzy is an emerging contemporary artist from Toronto, Canada. She completed her Bachelor of Visual Arts degree from Western University in 2016 and has committed to a full-time art practice in 2020. Burzy’s work is fuelled by her curiosity and introspection of human relationships and in particular, the awareness (or lack thereof) that can be observed from the third-party vantage point. Her work offers a commentary on inclusion, otherness and community. She captures the human interaction with each other and with the environment – relative figuratism. Her work invites the viewer to interpret the intended commonalities and stark differences of her visual narratives. Using primarily acrylic and oil paint on large-scale canvases, her technique of using many layers of paint and bold, contrasting colours work together to highlight the interconnectedness of the foreground and background. Each piece asks the viewer to explore their instinctive interpretations, question the norm and ultimately, reconsider the reality of their existence. #womeninart #womensupportingwomen #womenshistorymonth #contemporaryart #abstractpainting #acrylicpainting #style

The city is a fact in nature, like a cave, a run of mackerel or an ant-heap. But it is also a conscious work of art, and it holds within its communal framework many simpler and more personal forms of art. Mind takes form in the city; and in turn, urban forms condition mind. ༒Lewis Mumford

The nightgown has had quite a historical journey. Now it is commonly referred to a woman’s garment worn for bed. From the sixteenth through eighteenth centuries however, it was a man's loose gown. In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the nightgown was a woman's informal day/evening dress that some women might quite modestly wear to go to church.
