NoVA Apnea Challenge – Weekend Recap

What a weekend. We had a solid turnout for the NoVA Apnea Challenge, and some really impressive performances in the pool. Always good to see people pushing their limits while keeping the support for each other strong.

Thanks as well to everyone who joined the judges course. Building up a team of trained judges is just as important as the athletes. It’s what makes future competitions possible.

Proud of how the local freediving scene keeps showing up, growing stronger, and setting the bar higher.

Dear Summer of 2025,

You taught me to be present, to appreciate the little things, and to push myself into new adventures with the mentality of “fuck it.”

You brought me even closer to friends I adore and gave me experiences I will treasure forever.

The journey of an adventure is not about hitting your to-do list, rather to make the most out of everything that is thrown your way. I’ve learned it’s ok to not have a schedule, because the synchronicity of events are far more special when you are just going about day to day.

Let the world come to you, trust your gut, take care of you, and the rest will fall into place.

Thank you for the warmth.

Competed in my first freediving competition this weekend, hosted by @bluealchemyfreedive and Ocean Freedom freediving. 🌊

Did not expect to hear my own heart pounding in my ears when I started the static breath-hold. Despite the adrenaline, I ended up with two white cards, a 3:21 static and a 55 dynamic.

Got to see lots of impressive performances, including a national record. Our Virginia freediving community has a surprising number of powerhouses. Already looking forward to the next comp. 💙

Archive episode premieres TONIGHT on YouTube and Facebook!
Tune in to meet - Ana Broyles on episode 69 originally live streamed on Instagram on 10/20/2021 as part of @bogisgarage Trades Lady Happy Hour Live series that is now known as the With Her Two Hands podcast.
***

Ana Broyles’ journey into the automotive world began in a high school shop class. Her interest was further sparked during summers working at a KTM motorcycle and sportscar shop. The techs there encouraged her curiosity, allowing her to observe and eventually get hands-on experience, setting the foundation for her future career. She was recruited by UTI where she thrived and which eventually landed her a job at BMW. Ana is now a Master Tech for BMW as well as a High Voltage Specialist. She decided to take on a 2002tii car restoration project, which turned out to be more challenging than she had anticipated. Progress was slow as she worked on it sporadically over several years. In search of a new challenge and to distract herself from the painstaking restoration project and the death of her father, Ana ventured into the world of racing. Although she found it thrilling, a serious accident that totaled her racing car made her reconsider the dangers and costs associated with the sport. Still craving the thrill of the sport, Ana transitioned to road and mountain bike racing.
Tune in as Ana shares how her father’s hobby inspired her automotive journey, how shop life surprised her and what it was like coming up as a female in the industry.

Make sure you check out this week’s guest and see all the awesomeness she has been up to since this aired. @bimmer_b
