We had one chance to get BIMUN’s 10th anniversary right.

Back in 2016, when I started BIMUN at Babcock University with a group of friends, we never planned to hit 10 years- we only focused on getting the next conference better than the previous. This August, we returned to the same campus to host our 10th anniversary conference barely 3 months after the Rwanda Experience and 10 years after the first conference.

When we began planning BIMUN Rwanda April of 2025, we knew we would be delivering two international conferences on overlapping timelines: Kigali in April and Babcock in August of 2026. For Nigeria, we interviewed 41 candidates before 11 panelists to build the secretariat, trained every official before day one, and set up an International Press Committee to report on the conference as it happened. Delegates who had been with us for years expected the tenth year to show how far BIMUN had come, and first-timers expected the experience they had heard so much about.

Running both conferences at once has been the most challenging experience of my life.

From August 2 to 6, we delivered. Peter Obi gave the keynote address, and the 10th session of BIMUN closed at Babcock, where it all started.

On arrival day, we had @samuelajayi_ lead the hospitality team and I noticed him instructing a volunteer at one point to stand at the entrance shaking hands and welcoming delegates as they walked in- one small gesture that changed delegates relaxed the delegates and made them feel very welcomed.

To improve the experience for both first-timers and returning delegates, we brought the Gen Z members of our team into planning and asked them to design new activities for the conference. Our logistics, hospitality and communications teams worked together to plan and deliver them, including the slush section, the spin the wheel session at registration, and a welcome mascot that greeted delegates on arrival. Delegates felt the difference fr
