The assignment was to paint loose abstract mushrooms. Lost control. Things escalated. Naughty art ensued. Let’s just say I had to reshape the mushrooms and smother them in gold ink…

I just hope @bindidesaiart doesn’t throw a chappal 🩴 at me because of my questionable interpretation of everything she’s been teaching me. I promise she’s a much better teacher than I am a student. 😂💕 and class is ALWAYS a good time!

A little library of color combinations that bring me joy. 💛

I’m slowly filling my @bindidesaiart sketchbook with palettes I fall completely in love with, and these five colors from my @agallocolors Mid-Century palette have earned their place!

Here’s your reminder to document the little discoveries that delight you. They’re worth remembering and revisiting.

Stay wild. ✨

I almost gave up on this one, but @bindidesaiart told me to keep going, and I listen to Mrs. Desai. Abstract Fall Florals class with Bindi. If you’re not part of her art club, what are you even doing?

Earlier this month, I took a muted abstracts class with @bindidesaiart - I’ve taken a few classes with her now, and what I find most fulfilling about them is the permission they give me to let go of the outcome.

I’m a perfectionist. Always have been. But her style of teaching invites me to focus less on technique and more on emotion.

People have a lot of opinions about abstract art and what something is “supposed” to look like. Even I’ve been guilty of questioning the value of abstraction. But abstract art is also art. A painting doesn’t have to resemble something recognizable to hold meaning. Sometimes the meaning is simply in the making.

Since beginning art therapy recently, I’ve been learning to ask different questions: What color is this feeling? What mark does happiness make? What shape does sorrow take?

No need to make something beautiful. No need for it to make sense. Just color, movement, feeling, and a little room to breathe.

There is healing in letting the page hold what words sometimes cannot.

First night. New room. Someone else's instruction.

I came in as a solo artist and quickly remembered — I don't always know how to be a student. My supplies weren't quite right, my hand wanted to go its own way, and somewhere in the middle of following along... a figure appeared in the paint. Bowed. Yielding. Reaching toward something.

So I named it what it showed me: Bowed to Flower.

Painted from Card #36 — "You Are Supported" — from @bindidesaiart's Whispers Within oracle deck. A 36-card journey born from her own 100 days of art as therapy. The last card in the deck was my first prompt. I don't think that's an accident.

Exploring what it means to receive instruction. To bow. To still bloom anyway.

This month has been full of variety. From abstracts with @bindidesaiart to birds on Feather Friday with @chelseyfreyta and @thelavishbrush to catching lives with Chelsey and @fluffypigeon_art . I have learned to much

The Weekly Update! Episode 27! See below for more about each segment…

Loving:
The pastel pencil is very nice! I can’t wait to double down and use it on the UArt paper with my next pastel project. And the Funto paper? Loving. It. It’s cold pressed with the smoothness of hot press. Major chef’s kiss.

Notcing:
Pastels! Looking at you @chelseyfreyta and @bindidesaiart Loving every minute of it, too! Thanks for being part of why so many people feel safe to try art!

An Artist I’m Loving:
Carissa! You adorable thing! Making amazing artwork all around. Everyone go follow @thelunatic_x ! She is creating the most beautiful murals!

Hot Take/Pep Talk:
I know I have too many supplies. I’m working on it.

I am more likely to protect the time to paint when it’s a live class. I love @bindidesaiart zoom classes, currently loving abstract botanicals 💛✨

If you are like me and feel challenged or struggle allowing yourself to paint loosely and more abstract, then I highly recommend you join one of @bindidesaiart demonstrations! This is not the first time I have taken one of her classes on Zoom and somehow she manages to pull some really interesting and may I say Beautiful art out of me!! This is not something I would have pulled out of my hat myself! There was even a point where I thought this is getting too much on the paper and I just stuck with it and kept going under her direction until I ended up with this! Ironically, her theme to this painting, which she announced at the beginning before I even started, was titled stay with it!!! So glad I did. Thank you Bindi!!! 💖💜💚💙 #watercolor #botanical #floral
